Won a couple of chases at up to 3m at Fakenham in 2016 but has largely been hurdling of late. Beaten ½L over fences in a 3m1f Hereford handicap two starts ago. Now 5lb higher and his CV suggests that winning from this mark will be very tough.
Has won two chases over 3m/3m1f, inc. on soft. Now 8lb lower than the more recent of those but not seen much in past two years. Has failed to complete all three starts in that time. Stable in good form, but takes a leap of faith to side with him.
Won twice at Bangor over 2m4½f (heavy)/3m (good) in the spring of 2016 on the handicapper has just had his measure since then. Not seen since March and now makes debut for this trainer. Improvement entirely possible.
Best effort so far came in a Uttoxeter novices' hurdle (2m7½f, heavy) 11-months ago. Wasn't far off that level of form on chase debut at Wetherby (3m, soft) last month, when jumping let him down late on. A more fluent round gives him claims here.
Was a model of consistency in making the frame on numerous occasions before breaking his chasing duck at the 11th attempt over C&D (good) last month. Decent effort in defeat from this mark last time, goes on any ground and should be thereabouts.
Is 2lb better off with Dontminddboys for a 2L defeat to him over C&D (good) last month. His inconsistency was underlined when he pulled up again last time, but cheek pieces may help and if on a going day you couldn't rule him out.
Forecasts
Dontminddboys (5/2), San Pietro (10/3), Mr Love (4/1), Shinooki (9/2), Dylanseoghan (7/1), Shockingtimes (8/1)
A decent pot has drawn a competitive field for the grade and it looks worth siding with SAN PIETRO on his debut for Donald McCain. The 10-year-old acts on testing ground, stays a bit further than this and could improve a few pounds under his new in-form handler. Mr Love was made favourite for his Wetherby chase debut, so there is likely to be some ability there and the drop back in trip might help him get home as he looked tired late on there. He is feared. Dontminddboys and Dylanseoghan are weighted to finish very close again, though Robin Dickin's runner is just preferred given his more consistent profile.
- San Pietro
- Mr Love
- Dontminddboys
