Has threatened on more than one occasion this season over longer trips, drops down in distance and handicapper has offered some hope. Needs to see his race out, but a big threat if doing so.
Some promise on second start for Olly Murphy over marathon trip at Sedgefield on second start for yard in early December. Unseated rider early doors at Warwick on New Year's Eve, not one to give up on just yet with champion jockey taking over now.
Has shaped well enough in two of three runs back from a 532-day absence. Eased again in ratings, commands respect once more in this line-up.
Former Nicky Henderson inmate, hasn't shown all that much in two starts over fences for this handler but still early days on just fourth chase outing.
C&D winner on New Year's Day 2017, ran best race since when attempting to take that prize again three weeks ago (2??L second of six on heavy ground). Certainly would be in the finish with a repeat effort, though not the most consistent.
Poor maiden chaser, pulled up last month at Southwell (3m1??f, good to soft) on first start for 730 days. Not getting any favours on these terms and faces stiff task.
Forecasts
Wood Pigeon (5/2), Mondo Cane (11/4), Achill Road Boy (4/1), Wish In A Well (4/1), Tower Of Allen (6/1), Dougalstar (25/1)
MONDO CANE perhaps didn't have the race run to suit last month at Southwell but he stayed on into third spot just the same, confirming his well-being on his second start back after more than 500 days off. He gets another bit of relief from the assessor here and could be up to winning this open looking heat. Achill Road Boy has threatened at times this term before potentially have his stamina found out. The drop in trip ought to suit, but is still one to be wary of. Wood Pigeon unseated last time but can be given a chance over this sort of trip while Wish In A Well made a gallant bid to win here on New Year's Day for the second year running and will be right there if replicating that effort.
- Mondo Cane
- Achill Road Boy
- Wish In A Well
