Beat the prolific winner Qaffaal last winter but has clearly had his issues since. Latest effort came eight months off and a further delay in his return to action suggests he has been wrong since. The market will be a good indicator of expectations.

Signs on Thursday the handicapper had dropped him to a more competitive mark. Struggled to go the pace over 7f, but was staying on in a manner indicating the return to a mile would benefit. Has three wins and two places from six runs in this class.

Last three wins have come from this mark and he is more than capable in a grade which has yielded four of his seven victories. Never happy after being denied the lead here on Thursday, but less competition for that role now and cheekpieces added.

Has dropped 20lb in the weights since last winter and his performances warrant that. New trip and hood tried so probably best watched.

Best form has come at 7f but new trainer has been running him over much further. Penultimate run attracted the attention of the stewards and interesting to see him dropped in trip with stronger handling employed.

Had form in better company than this last year and was second in a hot race at Doncaster off 5lb higher than today. Fourth on latest start here in what looked an easier race than this, but should find a race soon.

Won a weak Sandown maiden in June and confirmed that impression when only beating one home on his return a month ago. Blinkers fitted now.

Potential improver now switching to a yard in form from one which had it's problems in 2017. Hard to judge him on his AW debut as he may have done enough for the season. Has gone well fresh in the past and down to an attractive mark.

Just touched off in a 7f handicap at Chelmsford on his penultimate outing and produced a fair effort despite finishing eighth over the same trip at Wolverhampton subsequently. Yet to make the frame at this trip even off better marks than today.

Forecasts

Chester Street (5/2), Intense Style (5/1), Briyouni (6/1), Pearl Spectre (6/1), Kreb's Cycle (8/1), Bristol Missile (10/1), Mr Bossy Boots (10/1), Gothic Empire (10/1), Kadrizzi (14/1)

Verdict

Chester Street could be considered nicely weighted having landed a race last winter that worked out well. However, he has had his share of problems since and cannot be recommended with any confidence. Intense Style looks well-handicapped on last summer's form and he is feared under a pilot that gets on well with him. Mr Bossy Boots shaped well here on Thursday and his record in this grade stands scrutiny. BRIYOUNI appeals most on his debut for Ralph Beckett whose string are in good form. The five-year-old was with the Kevin Ryan stable which had a problematic 2017 and so it is possible he starts this year on a more attractive mark than would have been the case but for those issues. The gelding has responded positively to a break in the past and he looks an interesting play given that potential for improvement. Gothic Empire has raced over middle-distances on both starts for his new yard. He is untested at this distance but he could be one to watch in the market with Martin Harley booked to replace a claimer.
