Notched a three-timer last year but hasn't been in the same frame of mind over fences of late. Still on a handy enough mark in this sphere but does come into this with a bit to prove.

Justified favouritism at Taunton latest and handy the gelding gets on well with today's rider. However, a 5lb higher mark does make things tougher this time and a personal best is now required.
3
Horse silk
Deep Resolve19
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-10| J: Jonjo O'Neill Jr.(3)| T: Sally Haynes| OR:  113
25/1
Fit from the Flat but his hurdles form is nothing special and it's a long time since he was successful in the sector of racing. Others hold more obvious claims.
4
Horse silk
Morianour9
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-10| J: Mitchell Bastyan(3)| T: Evan Williams| OR:  113
2/1
Lightly raced but showed he retains plenty of ability on his recent reappearance - that effort was encouraging enough to suggest the gelding can be a player in this company.

Holding his form just now and has obviously had no issues with switching yards recently. May not want the ground too soft but possible he's got more to offer so well worth a check in the betting.

Cape Hideawayp22
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: Jamie Hamilton(3)| T: M Walford| OR:  112

Goes well at this course but form has taken a bit of a nosedive of late and the gelding now has a bit to prove. Others more convincing.

Fresh New Dawnh16
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: Fergus Gregory(8)| T: O Murphy| OR:  112| BF

Lightly raced and fair to say he's still learning so may have a bit more in the offering. Needs to step things up a few notches from recent performances, though.
8

Bowie22
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-6| J: Tom Broughton(8)| T: N Kent| OR:  109| CD
7/1
Back to winning ways over C&D in March and mainly consistent since then. Raised 2lb after a sound effort back here on Boxing Day but still a contender on these terms. Shortlisted.
9
Horse silk
Toweringb29
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-2| J: R Patrick| T: C R Dore| OR:  105

Winner at Uttoxeter in October but has been a touch erratic and hard to predict since then. Claims on the pick of his form but risks attached.

Perseid4
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-12| J: Sam Coltherd(3)| T: J Parkinson & S Smith| OR:  101
9/1
Dropped to a reasonable enough mark to suggest he can get competitive in race of this nature; yard always respected at the course is a further plus. One to seriously monitor from a a featherweight.

Forecasts

Morianour (2/1), Fresh New Dawn (9/2), Cabernet D'Alene (5/1), Bowie (7/1), Barrys Jack (8/1), Perseid (9/1), Towering (16/1), Cape Hideaway (20/1), Deep Resolve (25/1), Royal Beekeeper (25/1)

Verdict

Several of these hold decent claims on the pick of their form, not least the lightly weighted PERSEID, who is on a very handy mark and has always been much better over hurdles than fences. The ten-year-old represents a yard in good form and could be very dangerous to underestimate. Cabernet d’Alen is highly respected despite needing to post a personal best, while Barrys Jack and Bowie are others that find themselves on winnable ratings and are also worth a betting check.
  1. Perseid
  2. Cabernet D'alene
  3. Barrys Jack
