Useful novice hurdler last season, but avoided the big festivals. Jumped woefully on chasing debut at Cheltenham and is swiftly reverted to hurdles. Has untapped potential over timber and has the assistance of the country's top claiming jockey.
Boasts an impressive level of form since joining this yard from France, including two victories at this track around this time last year. Off since a solid reappearance run at Chepstow in October and has to be considered with plenty in his favour.
Progressive hurdler who has won his last two starts at Aintree and at this track. Hard to work hard off 5lb lower last time and, although respected, may be vulnerable off this career-high mark.
Returned to action with a pleasing win at Stratford and may have found the ground too soft when disappointing on his only subsequent run at Haydock. Connections have been on a dream run so he is not one to write off.
Fair novice when trainer by Nicky Henderson and was a runway winner over 2m7f at Haydock last time on his fifth start for his current yard. Drop in trip and 12lb higher mark are significant obstacles to overcome.
Promising novice hurdler who always looked a chaser in the making so it was disappointing to see him fall on his fencing debut at Newbury. Top trainer clearly reckons there is some juice in his hurdles handicap mark so well worth a second look.
Irish import whose only run for current trainer saw him shape well at Newbury until losing his action after 3 out. Not totally dismissed, but this is a hot race and he will do well to match strides with some unexposed, younger rivals.
More than useful novice hurdler who won his first two starts over timber before finishing second to a talented rival over 2m at this track. Hit a flat spot that day before running on strongly so this longer trip will surely suit. Short list.
Has won three of his five races over hurdles, including a handicap at Lingfield when last seen in November. Up 5lb, but is going the right way and canny trainer is always to be feared in these types of contests.
Showed potential as a lightly-raced novice hurdler and has proved he can mix it in two outings in handicap company. Should strip fitter for his first outing in six months at Cheltenham last time and is another with claims.
Had no trouble landing a Wincanton handicap hurdle last month, but was found wanting behind a Cheltenham Festival bound-winner in a Class 2 novices' hurdle at Ascot last time. This is more realistic, but he is 11lb higher than when successful.
Won twice for Philip Hobbs, but lost his way and owners have opted for a change of scenery in a bid to spark a revival. New yard adept with such recruits and have already landed a big handicap hurdle with a similar type this season.
French import who won two of his seven starts across the English Channel. Hard to equate his form with most of his rivals, but stable knows the time of day and there has been support for him. Interesting jockey booking, too.
Promising novice hurdler whose first venture into handicap company at Ludlow last time saw him just touched off in a driving finish. Has been hit with an 11lb rise which seems very harsh.
Fairly consistent hurdler who has been holding his own in some competitive handicaps. May need to drop a few pounds to hold a winning chance, however, and will do well to trouble the best of these rivals.
Not seen since landing an ordinary 2m novices' hurdle at this track in April. Looks to have a stiff task off his current mark following his spell on the sidelines.

A superb renewal of this valuable handicap hurdle and a fitting tribute to the top-class horse after which it is named. River Frost boasts excellent course form and is a major contender, while Wishfull Dreaming is a facinating contender on his first start for a yard which has already plundered one big prize at Ascot this season. French import La Patriote is another intriguing runner for his shrewd stable, Spiritofthegames represents a similarly-canny yard and Topofthegame is of definite interest switched back to hurdles. However, the champion trainer has two major cards to play in William Henry and DIESE DES BIEFFES and the latter looks sure to be suited by this longer trip after running so well behind a talented rival over 2m last time. He could be well handicapped and has a talented claimer on board. Bags Groove and Red Indian add further spice to a crackerjack contest.
