Mixed fortunes in point-to-points but pleasing start over timber at Wincanton (2m, heavy) on Boxing Day when clear second behind odds-on jolly in Mares' Novice contest. Obvious claims now.

Won a bumper around here in 2016 before spending a year on the sidelines. She hasn't shown a lot in hurdles runs at Plumpton and here (2m3f, heavy) and looks best watched at the moment.

Bumper winner at Towcester in May on good to firm, tailed off last month on hurdles bow over this C&D (soft) and big step forward required on that evidence.
Getaway mare, sent off 25/1 and beaten around 22L on debut in a bumper at Aintree in October, tackles hurdles for the first time and interesting to see how market judges her for respected connections.

Showed promise in pair of bumpers, ridden prominently here last month on hurdles bow over longer trip but unable to sustain her effort, finished 32L fourth of nine. She may well build on that effort and drop in distance to suit.

Tailed off in a soft-ground Plumpton bumper last month on debut, had previously missed an engagement here due to heavy going, so unlikely to be in love with today's conditions for hurdling bow.
Winner of a Southwell bumper in March 2016 but hasn't been the easiest to train seemingly. Improved on second hurdles start to be 5½L third 14 in Ludlow novices' contest last month (2m, soft) and just about sets standard on that.
Has shown hints of ability in three bumpers runs and was twice supported in the betting for same. First start over timber and yard are flying (3-6 recently) so worth paying some attention to.

Forecasts

Scorpion Princess (5/2), My Dance (3/1), Tierra Verde (6/1), Miss Molly Mae (6/1), Bee Crossing (8/1), Bold Image (8/1), Jubilympics (14/1), Remember Me Well (150/1)

Verdict

Tierra Verde is an interesting contender on hurdles bow for the red-hot Whittington yard, she's run well enough in her bumpers to suggest she might have a hand to play. The pair with hurdles form are Scorpion Princes and BEE CROSSING. The former ran a solid race at Ludlow last month, improving on her first start over timber, and just about sets the standard. However, the selection went well behind an odds-on favourite on debut jumping flights at Wincanton on Boxing Day on heavy ground and, with the likelihood she'll build on that over this longer trip, she is taken to get off the mark here. Any support for hurdling debutante Miss Molly Mae would be worth noting.
  1. Bee Crossing
  2. Scorpion Princess
  3. Tierra Verde
