Not in bad form over hurdles recently despite his advancing years, but it has to be a concern that all but one of his ten wins have come on ground described as good to soft or better.
Made an encouraging end to last season but has failed to pick up where he left off this campaign, with two poor performances so far. Perhaps a slight drop in class will see him to better effect.
Slightly disappointing at Sedgefield last time out when beaten favourite despite being sent off a short price, but didn't help himself through his jumping and should be able to put in a better performance on handicap debut.
Lightly-raced mare but never really got going when trained by Phillip Hobbs and needs to put in a much better effort on this stable debut.
Probably a slightly better chaser than hurdler but has won a handicap hurdle on soft ground over a similar trip to this in the past, and that was only off 1lb lower than her current mark.
Dual-purpose performer who has been running fairly well on the Flat recently. Returns to hurdles now having not been disgraced on handicap debut last time out, and holds minor claims.
Wasn't particularly impressive on handicap debut last time out but has been dropped 3lb and wasn't helped by his jumping on that occasion. Has the potential to do better here with tongue strap added.
13 race maiden across both codes. This step back in trip is a positive but is unlikely to be enough to see him get involved following some poor performances.
Last year's winner of this but hasn't been at the same level of form since. Goes well here but is still higher in the handicap than when winning a year ago.
On a long enough losing streak by now but has sunk to a very attractive handicap mark and has won over C&D in the past. Fell at the first when sent off favourite for a selling handicap hurdle last time and is one for the shortlist.
Pulled-up on her return from a long break at Uttoxeter last time out and even though she may well have needed the run she surely can't come from that effort to seriously threaten here.
Pulled-up on handicap debut last time having not impressed in novice hurdles, and though he's down 5lb he's still very tough to build a case for.
Forecasts
Hartside (10/3), Today Please (7/2), Snowed In (7/1), Inniscastle Lad (7/1), Nautical Twilight (10/1), Civil Unrest (10/1), Calarules (12/1), Life Knowledge (14/1), Pumaflor (20/1), Getonsam (33/1), Earth Lady (50/1), Harmonic Lady (80/1)
Maybe former C&D winner HARTSIDE is the one to side with here. This gelding hasn't won a race for quite a while but has been dropped to a very attractive handicap mark and was unlucky to fall when sent off favourite over C&D last time out. Inniscastle Lad is feared most particularly if he can put in a more accomplished jumping performance, while Civil Unrest is also a possibility as long as he handles the ground.
- Hartside
- Inniscastle Lad
- Civil Unrest
