In better form earlier in the year when he completed an AW handicap hat-trick at Wolverhampton/Southwell with all the wins coming over further. Now 11lb above his last winning mark but has looked back to form of late; trip looks on the short side though.

Five-time winner on this surface with two of the wins coming over C&D but it took a trip to Lingfield in March to end a long losing run. Can look a rather hard ride and has his share of attitude; slow away latest start and one to be a little wary of.

First try on this surface with the sire only having a 6% strike-rate here although he was in good for on turf when last seen winning two of his last three races on soft/heavy ground. Up 5lb for his last win (pulled very hard) and it remains to be seen how he takes to this surface.

Looks an improved model since being given another chance on fibresand winning his last two over C&D off marks of 67 and 73. Not hit too hard for his two quick wins by the handicapper (raised just 6lb for last win) although he now takes on better company than before.

Makes her debut on the surface (sire has had plenty of winners here) and she's clearly thrived on other AW surfaces of late winning on Tapeta and Polytrack. Her latest win under a leading amateur showed that she was still improving; should be able to cope with this mark.

By an American sire (Hard Spun) so every chance that she will act on the fibresand and comes here having won and finished a runner-up in her two starts (both on AW) so far. Cheekpieces go on for the first-time and looks open to improvement off this mark.

First try on the Fibresand and no real clues in the pedigree as to whether he will handle this surface. Last Flat wins came back in 2014 and although he has run in better grade than this most of his recent form is fairly modest and he was pulled-up over hurdles when last seen.

Had form on Fibresand before his two most recent wins here (one over this distance) and he looks very progressive here. 6lb higher mark and a higher grade to cope with now but hard to leave out of the equation here given his recent progress.

Taken the runner-up spot here the last twice the last second coming over this distance in a maiden although he didn't look the most straightforward and his finishing effort looked weak. Now returned to handicaps facing some progressive sorts and not hard to pass over.

Forecasts

Good Time Ahead (5/2), Spinning Melody (9/2), Restive (9/2), Moabit (11/2), Snowy Winter (9/1), Epitaph (11/1), Start Seven (12/1), Alton Bay (14/1), Royal Marskell (40/1)

Verdict

A good start to the card with a interesting handicap where some of the main players have already shown that they can act well on this surface. RESTIVE could have been put up a few pounds more by the handicapper for his latest win here and a 6lb rise looks fair and a hat-trick could well be on the cards. Good Time Ahead is another who has made rapid progress on this surface and needs to be respected while the newcomers to fibresand Snowy Winter and Spinning Melody are also of interest particularly the latter with her American pedigree. Start Seven definitely handles this surface and a return to it may well spark him back to life although this trip does looks a little on the short side for him.
  1. Restive
  2. Good Time Ahead
  3. Spinning Melody
