Won a Southwell bumper on debut in 2015 but after showing a bit of promise over hurdles (2m4f-3m) he was off the track for 19-months. Entitled to need his reappearance at Doncaster and 4lb drop makes him well in on best hurdles form.

Consistent hurdler at his level but left that form well behind with an excellent effort to be just ¾L second to Ami Desbois at Wetherby (2m, good to soft) last time. Even a loose interpretation of that gives him decent claims from this mark.

Has made a good start for this trainer with three runs here, winning a novices' handicap hurdle (good to soft) over C&D last month from 2lb lower. Went well over a similar trip last time and open to some improvement now going chasing.

Made the frame in a bumper and a novices' hurdle (2m3f), both when there was soft in the description. Unable to take advantage of the slack being cut by the handicapper lately and now headgear combi tried along with 4lb drop. Bit to prove.

1-17 so far, that sole win being over 3m1f (good to soft) at Huntingdon from a lowly mark of just 69. Has been better over fences without winning, but hammered from today's mark last time and 4lb 'wrong', so not easy to get excited about his chance.

Verdict

This looks to be a good opportunity for MORTENS LEAM to break his duck over fences at just the second attempt. Pam Sly's five-year-old might have been flattered by the close proximity of his finish behind the now 141-rated Ami Desbois at Wetherby on his chase debut, but even a loose interpretation of that form gives him decent claims from today's mark of just 104. Mullaghboy looks likely to prove competitive, while Who You For can not be ruled out if able to run to the best of his hurdles form on his second run after a long absence.
