Given a 12lb rise for an 11L win on his return from a break at Chepstow and although that form doesn't look that strong he did win in taking fashion. Faces very different conditions here but there could well be some more improvement to come; leading chance.

Sprang a 25/1 surprise win at Chepstow in January on soft ground over 2m. Since then he's been run over longer trips and has struggled and his latest outing contained little to recommend him here and he's best watched over this trip.

Cheekpieces go on for the first-time as he reverts to hurdles after returning to action off the back of a long break over fences. Made little impact there and now runs off a similar mark but makes limited appeal.

Ploughed through heavy ground to win a Lingfield novice earlier in the year over 2m. Has always looked the type to do well in handicaps and was only beaten by an unexposed sort off 2lb lower last time; should appreciate this trip although may need rain.

Make Me A Fortunep29

Better known as a chaser of late but has yet to win over fences and reappeared over hurdles after a break last time. Failed to settle in that race and finished well held and hard to see him coping with the principals here even off a lower mark.

Track, trip and ground are likely to suit but the handicapper must know where he is with him now even if he is back below his last winning marks over both hurdles and fences. Running respectably of late but vulnerable to any improving sorts in the field.

All his winning/best form has come over shorter trip on better ground and even accounting for the fact that he's 5lb below his last winning mark it's hard to make a cogent case for him winning this. Questions to answer based on his last run and passed over here.

Ballythomas235

Back from a break with no great record fresh and was pulled-up over fences when last seen in April at Perth. Runs off a mark that is 14lb higher than his last winning chase one and given the fact he may need this not hard to pass over here.

Lost his way when with Gordon Elliott in Ireland and sold for just £6,000 out of that yard in September. Both runs for his current connections have promised little and he can only be watched for now.

Bohemian Rhapsodyp11
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-8| J: C J Todd(7)| T: B Barr| OR:  97| C
20/1
Continues to fall in the weights over hurdles and hasn't shown any real sign of taking advantage (last hurdles win came of 116; now 97). Did run slightly better on the Flat last time though (well handicapped in that sphere) and worth watching in the market.

Forecasts

Dandy Duke (4/5), Groundunderrepair (4/1), Waltz Darling (8/1), Simply The West (12/1), Russian Service (16/1), Bohemian Rhapsody (20/1), Make Me A Fortune (20/1), Ballythomas (20/1), Wolfslair (33/1), Mighty Missile (33/1)

Verdict

Not a race that has any great strength in depth and it’s hard to see past the two main protagonists in Dandy Duke and GROUNDUNDERREPAIR. The former faces very different conditions here to those that saw him romp to victory at Chepstow and that coupled with a 12lb higher mark may just find him out here. The latter ran into a well handicapped improving type last time and this increased trip should suit him and he’s given a narrow vote to get off the mark in handicaps. The others all look as though they may have been better in the past although conditions are in favour of Waltz Darling and any market moves for the well handicapped Bohemian Rhapsody should be noted given he showed a little more on the Flat last time.
  1. Groundunderrepair
  2. Dandy Duke
  3. Bohemian Rhapsody
