Trainer has done well with this sort but after four runs for this yard this one looks a tougher test to turn round (always worn some sort of headgear). First two runs for the yard were respectable (beaten favourite both times) but ran an appalling race last time; treat with caution.

A visor joins the usual tongue-tie this time in a bid to revive fortunes having been pulled-up last time out at Exeter. May well have found conditions to testing last time out (heavy ground) but still has to prove himself over this sort of trip.

It's been a while since he won over hurdles now (December 2015) although he has won on the Flat since then. Looked to have returned to form when last seen at Perth in April (ran second to an improver) and now has his first run for this yard; can be a hard ride/temperamental.

Made his handicap debut last time out off a stiff looking mark and was well beaten over 2m4f dropping away when the tempo quickened. Dropped 3lb for that effort he may well need further help yet from the handicapper before he is of any interest.

Confirmed the promise of a previous run when winning at Hexham in September over a similar sort of trip (first win since late 2015). Beaten twice since off higher marks ad remains 4lb above that last winning mark and looks to have gone off the boil.

Not the most straightforward and has his quirks but took full advantage of a falling mark when winning under a positive ride at Chepstow on his penultimate start. Failed to follow-up that win off the same mark suggesting that this mark of 92 may find him out here.

Was quickly switched into handicaps and found his initial mark (95) far to heady to overcome although the handicapper quickly relented and he took full advantage to score off 83 at Fontwell last time. More needed here under 6lb more but looks to have found his feet for now.

Exit To Freedomp,h20

Had a rare going day a few starts ago when filling the runner-up slot at Uttoxeter but rather predictably has failed to build on that and remains with just one win to his name from 48 starts. Usually takes a strong hold and not one to be interested in.

Forecasts

Triopas (5/2), American Life (3/1), Wells Gold (3/1), Varene De Vauzelle (5/1), Fraser Canyon (10/1), Turtle Cask (14/1), West To Crossgales (25/1), Exit To Freedom (50/1)

Verdict

Some less than straightforward types in this and despite the 6lb rise for winning last time out this looks best left to WELLS GOLD who has gradually found his feet and comes from a good yard who have been in tip-top form of late. Triopas has now had a break since his two quick runs and could see him turn in a better effort here although his finishing effort was rather weak last time. American Life would win this easily on his old form but the trip looks sharp enough for this out-and-out stayer although given his connections (first run for them) he should be watched in the market. Fraser Canyon has to prove himself over this trip and Varene De Vauzelle is going to need all his trainer’s skill to extract a win from him given his four starts so far for the yard.
  1. Wells Gold
  2. Triopas
  3. American Life
