Three career wins have all came over 5f and always looked a non-stayer over 6f. Still 2lb higher than his last win at Ayr despite moderate efforts since. Unproven on synthetics.

Attractively handicapped on the pick of his AW form, and has won on Tapeta (Wolverhampton), albeit with his last two career successes coming on Fibresand at Southwell. Chance on his first visit to Newcastle.

His last success came from a 17lb higher mark at Thirsk in September 2016 (5f). Left Michael Dods last winter, but yet to strike form for this trainer in 2017, but did produce an improved effort at Redcar latest (fifth).

Wolverhampton specialist who finished third to Herm at Dunstall Park (7f) on Saturday. Has recent C&D form with Jessie Allan (behind Breathoffreshair), and stays well, but needs the cheek-pieces in order to try and squeeze out a fraction more.

Maiden for previous trainer Richard Spencer, and came closest when beaten a nose at Lingfield in March (6f). His new trainer hasn't quite worked him out yet, but he switches away from Southwell now in the first-time visor.

Raced just twice since January 2016, but her trainer is a dab hand with sprinters, and she tackles this 6f trip from a career low mark. Raced keenly over 7f here last month, but is permitted to have needed that return to action.

His sole career success in 41 starts came over 5f at Wolverhampton in December 2015. Impossible to consider on his first start since August 2016.

Proved her stamina over 7f when winning from a career low mark here last week, beat Western Way by 1¼L. Escapes a penalty for that success (apprentices handicap), and actually races from a lower mark. Key player in a poor heat.

Veteran of 202 races (18 time winner). Out of sorts lately, but versatile between 5f and 6f, with his swashbuckling late appearances ideally best deployed off a strong gallop, and the handicapper is certainly giving him a chance.

Verdict

Last week's unpenalised 7f apprentices handicap winner Lotara will be rightly popular amongst punters in a poor heat, and she's expected to be produced late by Phil Dennis, but not quite as late as the swashbuckling veteran Captain Scooby who lines up for the 203rd time. However, if ever a horse deserves to win a race it is the admirable mare JESSIE ALLAN. Put simply and politely, this will only ever be her level, as she's not very good, but she tries plenty more than some horses with twice as much ability and that's an admirable trait to have in the armoury. She has kept good recent form at this track, and there's nothing anywhere near as strong as Breathoffreshair (6f) or Chaucer's Tale (7f) in the line up tonight, and this represents her big opportunity for her maiden success.
  1. Jessie Allan
  2. Lotara
  3. Borough Boy
