Useful chaser who has shown winning form but all over shorter trips than he will face here. Both runs this season have shown promise in their own way but he has still to win a handicap and despite travelling well last time this trip may find him out again.
Returns from a break having shown himself capable of sound form over fences winning twice last year (once over C&D). Both those wins came off lower marks though and he ended last season on a downbeat note; of interest but has to show he can cope with a mark of 130.
No stranger to this place having won here four times although only one of those wins came over fences but it was at this trip (15lb lower mark). Looked as good as ever when winning here over hurdles in October but never got competitive here over fences last time.
A winner over fences last November at Taunton off a 1lb lower mark he's never really fulfilled his promise over fences. Had shaped well enough on his reappearance run this year but looked laboured last time. Drops in grade but still not one to rely on.
Blinkers are now tried in an attempt to revive the fortunes of this dual handicap chase scorer from last season. Both those wins came at Taunton over staying trips (beat a small field both times) but his form of late has been below-par; hard one to catch right.
Pulled-up last time at Exeter after making a winning chasing debut at Huntingdon on his previous run. Hampered early on last time and better judged on his win where he jumped well and won in good style; dropped 3lb from last time and not out of this.
Not the most fluent of jumpers on occasions but had shown decent form since his last win at Cartmel in May off a mark of 127. His jumping can hamper his chance and he comes here off the back of a very poor effort at Cheltenham last time out.
As is so often that case he looks rejuvenated for a switch to this stable and followed up a hurdles win with a victory at Sedgefield last time out in a staying handicap the yard do well in. Given a 5lb rise for that win (form franked since) and has a leading chance in this.
A winner here in April over slightly shorter off a 4lb lower mark on his second start for the yard going with great zest through the race and holding on well. Not quite in the same form since but hardly had a similar test and hard to dismiss totally returned here.
Has his own way of doing things and can look a hard ride (often runs in snatches). Showed a little more than of late over C&D last time out before falling two out but that was in an easier grade than this and temperament doubts remain about him.
Showed that he had scope over fences and could match his useful hurdles form when improving on his debut fencing effort at Sandown last time out. Probably still learning over fences and may find this too competitive but may do better in the future.
A winner of three handicap chases between December 2016 and April 2017 on good ground he won't want any further ease in the ground here. Showed himself to be an improved performer last time (travelled well) but up in grade here off a 5lb higher mark; something to prove.
Forecasts
Audacious Plan (5/2), Dueling Banjos (10/3), Crystal Lad (5/1), Wicked Willy (9/1), Better Days (11/1), Relentless Dreamer (14/1), According To Harry (16/1), Moss On The Mill (16/1), Still Believing (25/1), Caulfields Venture (25/1), Abracadabra Sivola (28/1), Mont Royale (28/1)
A good quality and competitive race for the grade with several having a chance to add to their reputations in this. AUDACIOUS PLAN still looks as though he has more to offer with the form of his Sedgefield run being well advertised by the second and third since and like so many that go to this yard he’s been rejuvenated by the switch. Wicked Willy looks worth another chance to build on his good chasing debut while According To Harry will appreciate a return to this C&D. Crystal Lad is another who is expected to improve on his chase form so far and looks attractively weighted on his hurdles outings. Better Days deserves a shot at this but the ground may be a worry while Duelling Banjos may travel well but not quite see out this trip even around this sharp track.
- Audacious Plan
- Wicked Willy
- Crystal Lad
