Has been campaigning in better company for most of the year and his mark has dropped significantly in the process. Produced a solid performance in a C&D claimer two weeks ago when meeting the winner on 8lb worse terms than he would in a handicap.
In good form during the spring but out of sorts until a run here that caught the eye of the stewards on penultimate start. Trainer described him as a "serial bleeder" and that may explain a poor run last time.
Plenty of promise as a juvenile but not been seen in the same light in four starts this year. Lightly raced but big improvement required.
Winner of four AW races, the latest being a Chelmsford claimer (6f) in May which ended a lengthy losing run. Best effort since came when going close over 1m here on penultimate start, before weakening over slightly further next time.
Scored over a mile here under Silvestre de Sousa two months ago and another strong rider on board. Looked a bit keen last time when poorly drawn and the drop to 7f seems a wise move. Appeared unsuited by the right-handed course on penultimate start.
Landed a couple of AW handicaps in 2016. His form has taken a dip since the turn of the year with no signs he is ready to bounce back.
Has won four times and at his best on AW surfaces. Has finished last of all on his four most recent starts and impossible to recommend at present.
Handicap mark has plummeted since leaving Charlie Appleby and showing little for this yard. Could be interesting now dropping in trip and with a hood fitted for the first time.
Well beaten on each start since joining this yard from Richard Fahey, including a claimer here last time.
Has picked up three low grade races at Brighton and Ffos Las during the summer. Has clearly improved since previous AW start but her ability to compete at this level is open to more doubt.
Forecasts
Mansfield (13/8), Dashing Poet (3/1), Dutiful Son (7/2), Passing Star (12/1), The Special One (16/1), Muhajjal (16/1), German Whip (20/1), Spiritual Star (20/1), Fullon Clarets (25/1), Bridge Builder (50/1)
Mansfield is one to monitor in the markets given the fitting of headgear and a drop to a more suitable looking distance. The Special One likes Brighton so these undulations will hold no fears, however this is a better class race than she is accustomed to and DASHING POET makes more appeal. The filly tried to make all here last time over a mile and this shorter trip from a good draw could make her harder to catch. Dutiful Son showed he was back to his best last time when faced with a difficult task and he should be thereabouts despite topweight.
