C&D winner on debut in 2016 and has been running in better company than this since. Has done most of his recent racing over further but has shown enough early speed to warrant respect here. Good apprentice adds to his claims.
Won back-to-back 6f handicaps at Carlisle and Hamilton before finishing down the field off new marks since. Drop back to this grade, and an encouraging past run here, will raise hopes he can bounce back.
Won three races here last winter including two over C&D. Has dropped below his last winning mark but recent efforts are discouraging.
Good run over C&D in April off a mark of 75 would be more than good enough if replicated. Has been racing out of her depth or over different trips since and worth a market check.
Scored twice over C&D in March under this rider and has now dropped below his last winning mark. Drops into a class six race for the first time since those victories and impossible to rule him out.
Took his C&D record to 2-2 when making all to foil a gamble on the runner-up last month. Same rider on board and hard to dismiss in this field off just 3lb higher.
No longer the force he was and disappointing to see him throw away opportunities in a couple of sellers this year. Makes Fibresand debut and others look more reliable.
Scored at Chelmsford in March but has failed to make the frame since. Tends to get behind early and this not a surface where that is an asset, particularly with as much pace as in this.
Winner of 15 races who likes to make the running. Poorly drawn last time, but her two previous runs in this grade give hope if taking to this surface.
One of those difficult to train horses this trainer excels with. Fails to stand out on recent form, but market moves from this yard tend to be significant.
Finished fourth in a Group Three at her prime when her BHA rating was 98. A three year winless streak has seen that halved with few recent signs of a revival in fortunes. New headgear tried today.
Forecasts
First Excel (4/1), African Blessing (9/2), Pearl Acclaim (6/1), Appleberry (7/1), Viva Verglas (8/1), Declamation (10/1), Meandmyshadow (10/1), Vroom (10/1), Malaysian Boleh (12/1), Dodgy Bob (14/1), Willbeme (20/1)
There is plenty of early pace in this and First Excel will find it harder to dominate this time as he bids to follow up his recent C&D success. Appleberry and Declamation are two to watch in the market as both have claims on their best form. African Blessing is feared under his good claimer but the vote goes to VIVA VERGLAS. The six-year-old landed back to back successes here in the spring under this rider. He makes plenty of appeal back in this grade and below his last winning mark.
- Viva Verglas
- African Blessing
- First Excel
