Six starts over hurdles have yielded only one second place, although he has run some fair races. Has the ability to win a small maiden hurdle, but one or two of these rivals may prove too talented.

Promise in two bumpers, winning one of them, when trained by Alan King in England, but was pulled up after making a bad mistake on his hurdling debut for his new trainer at Clonmel. Something to prove after that display.

Cost €160,000 and made a winning start in a Fairyhouse bumper before finishing an excellent second behind Fayonagh in a Grade 1 at this track. Satisfactory hurdling debut when third of 12 to a good prospect at Naas and is likely to be much sharper.
Winning point-to-pointer who has shown only limited glimpses of ability over hurdles. Returns from a lay-off in a first-time hood so is best watched.
Competed over a variety of distances in 22 starts on the Flat, winning one of them. Most recent runs have been at around 1m so stamina may be an issue on hurdling debut.

Landed a bumper on debut for Willie Mullins, but was tailed off on his hurdling debut at Downpatrick last month. Has his first run for a new trainer and is worth a check in the betting market.

First run for current trainer saw him land a recent three-runner bumper at this course. Hard to know what that form is worth but he obviously possesses ability and will have been well prepared for his hurdling bow.
Fetched €14,000 as a three-year-old and is a half-brother to fair Flat and hurdles performer Lieutenant Miller. Appeals on breeding and is another who should be noted in the betting on his racecourse debut.
Bumper winner who has run creditably on both starts over hurdles. Needs to step up to trouble the best of these, however.
Beneficial gelding who cost €16,000 as a foal and is a half-brother to a couple of winning jumps performers. Will probably need this first experience on the racecourse.

Bought for €72,000 as a foal, he is a half-brother to Hell's Kitchen, a useful hurdler/chaser in England. Needed his hurling debut at Naas and looks a long-term prospect.

Won a middle-distance handicap on the Flat for John Joseph Murphy at Limerick in October, last year, but hurdles debut saw him pulled up. That was in January and he has plenty to prove for his new trainer after his lay-off.

Hinted at talent in a couple of bumpers, but fell at the second on hurdling debut at Clonmel. Best watched until showing more.

MIlan gelding who cost €120,000 as a three-year-old and is a half-brother to winning bumper/hurdles performer Fu's Island. Represents respected connections on debut and is one to note in the betting.
Son of Yeats out of a Califet mare who won over hurdles and fences in France. Outran odds of 50-1 when third on hurdling debut at Wexford and looks the most likely of his leading owner's five representatives given his jockey booking.
Court Cave gelding who fetched €30,000 as a foal. Well held on hurdling debut at Naas and probably needs more time to develop.

Daughter of Getaway from a decent family. Likely to need this debut run and is best watched with an eye to the future.

Middle-distance performer on the Flat, but won only one of her 18 starts and now tries her hand over timber. Others make more appeal, but recent form is fair so she is worth a check in the market.
19
Horse silk
25/1
Dual winner on the Flat who ran respectably on her hurdles debut at Thurles last month. Has a small race in her, but there may be one or two nice types pitched against her this time.
Winner of two of her 15 races on the Flat, she makes her hurdling debut. Leading stable always to be respected, so one to note in the betting.

Very little to shout about in two bumpers and two outings over hurdles. Can only be watched until revealing more ability.
Plenty of promise in two bumper outings at this track and Roscommon. One to keep a close eye on as she makes her hurdling debut.

Maiden on the Flat who shaped with promise when sixth of 23 on hurdling debut at Cork. Worth a second look if getting a run.
24
Horse silk
25/1
Son of Oscar who cost €52,000 as a foal and whose dam is a sister to top-class chaser Denman. Excellent pedigree and one to consider if making his debut.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-12| J: Reserve 3| T: E O'Grady
25/1
Point-to-point winner who has shown ability in a bumper and hurdles contest. May do better when confronted with fences, but not without hope if taking part.

Verdict

Spades Are Trumps is the choice of his leading owner's retained jockey and has to be respected after a solid hurdling debut, but he will do well to cope with the challenge of PALOMA BLUE, a useful bumper performer who will surely step up on his satisfactory initial effort over timber. The likes of State Of Nirvana. Nearly Famous, Mount Pelier and Athenean have prospects and are worth keeping an eye on.
  1. Paloma Blue
  2. Spades Are Trumps
  3. Mount Pelier
