Adherencep47
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: C O'Farrell| T: Kenneth Slack
16/1
Notched a second career success on the Flat at Ayr in October (1m5f heavy). Has subsequently left Tony Coyle for £6,500, and now makes his debut for a respected trainer. Raced once over hurdles previously (July 2016).

Big Time Dancer24
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: Danny Cook| T: B Ellison
13/8
A three time winner on the Flat, including as recently as September (1m2f). Posted a fairly respectable hurdles debut when beaten 14½L by Kalashnikov at Wetherby earlier this month (2m soft).

Bulkov18
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Joe Colliver| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  122
11/8
A 15 race career maiden, but with some reasonable French form in the book. Handles cut in the ground, but he's not progressed massively since joining this stable, and had every chance to score when beaten 2L in a weak race at Hexham latest.

7/1
A one time fair Flat handicapper for Richard Fahey, but gradually lost the winning habit and moved on to pursue a career over hurdles. His debut Bangor fifth to the exciting If The Cap Fits (2m+ soft) offers something to work upon moving forward.
5
Horse silk
12/1
Developed into a synthetics specialist during his career, landing a 7f Kempton Conditions Stakes by 1¼L in November 2016. Late enough to be switching to hurdles at the age of nine, and stamina/fitness a question, but hails from a shrewd stable.

Drums Of War56
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-12| J: Henry Brooke| T: C Grant
40/1
Has shown glimmers of ability in bumpers, with the pick of his four efforts probably coming at Kelso in May. However, not so strong on his seasonal return here in early October, and now tackles hurdles for the first time.
7

Naasik191
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: Colm McCormack(3)| T: J R Norton
100/1
Cost 140,000 gns as a yearling, but sold on unraced for just £2,000 in August 2016. Has shown some minor ability in bumpers (strongest effort here in May), but off the track for over six months and now makes the switch to hurdles.

Horse silk
80/1
Left David Evans for £6,000 after finishing third in a 1m2f Redcar claimer earlier this month. Hasn't won on the Flat since May 2016, and never beyond 1m, so doesn't look the most obvious candidate to make a successful switch to hurdles.

Porto Du Sudh15
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: Tony Kelly| T: R Menzies
33/1
Formerly with James Ewart, and has done okay to a degree since switched to hurdles by this trainer (in reasonably competitive contests). Likely to be more competitive for win and place purposes once granted a handicap mark.
10
Horse silk
150/1
Left Nicky Richards for £20,000 in May 2016 following a couple of fair placed efforts in bumpers. Off for over 18 months until returning to action over hurdles earlier this month. Has offered relatively little so far, but drops in trip here.

Red Ochre11
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: J Kington(3)| T: C Grant
200/1
Shown modest form in bumpers, and on the Flat for previous trainer John Quinn. Tailed off on his recent Newcastle hurdles debut for this trainer, and no reason to anticipate a stronger effort this afternoon.

Looked far from a natural over obstacles when making her hurdles debut at Market Rasen in late October, and in any case, her form in bumpers is nothing startling, so looks a likely back number.

Forecasts

Bulkov (11/8), Big Time Dancer (13/8), Character Onesie (7/1), Chookie Royale (12/1), Adherence (16/1), Porto Du Sud (33/1), Drums Of War (40/1), Kick On Dottie (40/1), Outback Blue (80/1), Naasik (100/1), Randy Pike (150/1), Red Ochre (200/1)

Verdict

An uninspiring novices hurdle which has a rather peculiar feel with the AW specialist and November 2016 7f Conditions Stakes winner Chookie Royale making a surprising appearance. His Flat rating is way in advance of this rather motley bunch, but in truth, without attempting to second guess his excellent trainer, he wouldn't make masses of obvious appeal as a hurdler at the age of nine. Bulkov finished a runner up at Hexham latest, but that form probably doesn't amount to all that much, whilst Big Time Dancer did okay on his Wetherby hurdles debut despite being well beaten by the useful winner Kalashnikov. In a race which looks best advised to swerve, CHARACTER ONESIE could be worthy of the smallest of each-way plays.
  1. Character Onesie
  2. Chookie Royale
  3. Bulkov
