Won a Worcester novices' chase in June, though well held under a penalty at Fontwell (2m5½f, good to firm) in August behind Black Corton in three-runner event. Well held off 134 on handicap bow at Ludlow (3m, good to firm) last month. Down in trip.
Ran up an impressive four-timer around the turn of the year, resulting in handicap mark climbing 23lb. Efforts appeared to have caught up with him at Sedgefield in March and again ran poorly on reappearance at Wincanton (2m4f, good) this month.
In really fine fettle of late, winning three of his last five starts, latest over 2m4f (good) in conditionals' event at Wincanton by 10L. Expected to be right there again under similar conditions.
Without a win since 2014 and frustrating to follow. Headed on the post over 2m2f here last month on return from a break and again ran well when 3½L second to Beggar's Wishes over 2m½f at Sedgefield 25 days ago. Wouldn't be winning out of turn.
Former Listed winner over hurdles in France (2m2f, vsoft), though yet to recapture that form in England. Better effort here over 2m2f (good) in Class 4 novice handicap chase this month when 2½L third of 11 and staying on at the line.
Won over an extended 2m4f at this course in April but not so good next time out a Southwell. Shaped well on reappearance at Huntingdon (2m4f, good) but since turned in a poor effort here (2m2f, good) when well backed, something to prove now.
Now 11-years-old and without a win since January 2015 (22 runs), has often run with credit in that sequence, but was pulled up on reappearance over this trip at Newbury early in the month having never travelled with great enthusiasm.
Record over fences is 5-17, with a further four placed efforts, poor on reappearance over 2m4f at Wincanton last month though did build on that to be third (beaten 16L) back there since in conditionals' race won by Play The Ace.
Elder statesman, but he's not forgotten how to win as he demonstrated when an emphatic 14L scorer at Newton Abbot last month (2m5f good to soft) off mark of 100. Held next time at Exeter when raised 9lb.
Forecasts
Favorito Buck's (11/4), Forever Field (5/1), Play The Ace (6/1), Dance Floor King (6/1), Volt Face (7/1), Bishops Court (8/1), Breath Of Blighty (9/1), Moorlands Jack (25/1), Gores Island (25/1)
Bishops Court was in super form earlier in the year but his efforts either side of a break having suggested the handicapper has gained control of their argument for now, though he is entitled to come on for the run last time out. Play The Ace could scarcely be in better form, with three wins in five starts lately, and he should give another bold show now. Volt Face has shown up well in two recent outings and wouldn't be winning out of turn but French import FAVORITO BUCK'S was doing his best work at the line here a fortnight ago and Paul Nicholls' charge could take a step forward now over this trip. Previously a Listed winner on the continent, he should hold strong claims on these terms if doing just that.
- Favorito Buck's
- Play The Ace
- Volt Face
