Despite his yard being in form looks one to avoid having refused to race in two of his three bumpers and had a real think about starting at Ascot on his hurdles debut.

8/11
Winner on his bumper debut for his former yard and also won in that same sphere for this stable. Has shown that he has plenty of ability over hurdles so far being given too much to do first time out and bumping into a useful one at Cheltenham last time who has won again since.

8/1
Makes his hurdles debut here having produced a promising effort on his Rules debut in a Bangor bumper finishing third under tender handling. Should be able to improve further given what he showed on debut.

17/2
Won on his bumper debut at Kempton beating a large field having started at 33/1 having travelled well. Failed to follow up that win but did show some aptitude for hurdling at Stratford after a break but does need to settle better to make an impression.

200/1
Reverts to hurdles after an error strewn round of jumping last time out over fences. Has very little to offer in terms of form with the record 0/10 over hurdles summing him up.
Started out life in a strong looking Punchestown bumper in April when finishing 6th shaping far better than the final result having meet interference during the race. Will undoubtedly improve on that and bred to stay well; one to be interested in on hurdles debut.

New Quayt125

10/1
Winner of an Irish point-to-point in March who looked very much in need of the experience on his hurdles debut at Aintree. Comes for a good yard and clearly well regarded although the tongue-tie goes on for the first time.

Off the mark at the 4th attempt in Irish point-to-points he makes his Rules debut here. Likely to need this outing and best watched in this.
Dam was a maiden on the Flat who barely stayed 1m6f and this looks a tough start to life over hurdles.

Showed some ability on his bumper debut at Doncaster (related to winners in that sphere) without being knocked around. Failed to repeat that effort after a break though in October (looked unsuited by conditions) and one to watch on hurdling debut.

Forecasts

Dans Le Vent (8/11), Musical Slave (11/4), Echo Express (3/1), Euxton Lane (8/1), Haafapiece (17/2), New Quay (10/1), Tayzar (33/1), Corzeam (66/1), Real Warrior (100/1), Secret Melody (150/1), Mahler Bay (200/1)

Verdict

This may well boil down to a head-to-head clash between two very likeable and seemingly progressive types in DANS LE VENT and Musical Slave. The experience of the former just tilts the scales in his favour especially as his Cheltenham conqueror has scored again. The latter of that duo should improve from his debut but that was several months ago and he may be lacking a little match sharpness. Plenty of the others will be running for handicap marks in the future although both Euxton Lane and New Quay are worth watching in the betting having shown some ability so far.
  1. Dans Le Vent
  2. Musical Slave
  3. Euxton Lane
