Decent sort in France where he achieved a level of form that would be better than anything in this field so far, though he was unable to win. Handles plenty of cut in the ground and should be better for a recent run after a break. Leading player.

Was readied to win first time out in an Ayr bumper (2m, heavy) in March, when he did the job nicely and gave the impression that there would be a fair bit more to come. Now gets his chance over hurdles and with conditions to suit, he is interesting.

Has so far raced only on good ground in bumpers, making the frame in one at Musselburgh in March. May have needed his most recent after a break and now makes his hurdles debut. Pedigree suggests he will need further, so perhaps one to watch today.
£10,000 foal, who sold for £68,000 at three. Half-brother to 2m3f-2m4f hurdle/ chase winner Edwulf, out of bumper/2m6f/3m hurdle winning half-sister to bumper winner Priests Road. Nice pedigree, though perhaps one to watch with longer trips in mind.

Irish raider who has been well beaten in all starts under both codes so far. Needs to make plenty of improvement to figure on the evidence of his racecourse performances.

Won a Carlisle bumper in March (2m1f, heavy) and ran well in a similar race to this on his hurdling debut last month at Uttoxeter (2m, soft). Well held at that venue last time, but hood may help now dropped in trip and he looks to be a contender.

Improved a little on his debut run when a 12L second here over C&D (heavy) last month. Entitled to come on a bit for that reappearance and with stable's runners in good form, he could make further progress this time.

Won a Sedgefield bumper in December (2m1f, good to soft) for Brian Ellison. Probably better than he has shown over hurdles, including here over C&D. Needs to take a step up to win this and may be one to consider more strongly when handicapping.

Best of her three runs to date was on debut at Kelso in a bumper a year or so ago. Joined this yard from Micky Hammond prior to her last run and now makes her hurdles debut. Pedigree suggests that she may do better now, so market check suggested.

Made the frame in a Perth bumper in August (good to soft), though disappointed when sent off at 8-1 back there next time. Has been 100-1 for all three hurdles runs so far and well beaten in the two she has completed. Not easy to make a case for her.

Forecasts

Tetraites Style (9/4), Bulkov (5/2), Ouro Branco (3/1), Calix Delafayette (8/1), Grand Morning (14/1), Go Go Lucas (18/1), The Linksman (20/1), Shesthebusiness (100/1), Fleminator (100/1), Michael James (125/1)

Verdict

Bulkov has the form on the board, though it has still not quite been good enough to get him home in front and we will take him on with OURO BRANCO. Nigel Hawke's trips north often bear fruit and this four-year-old is testimony to that with a Carlisle bumper win to his name already. The hood may help him now returned to the minimum trip and he is the suggestion. Tetraites Style and Fleminator are potential improvers, though the big danger to the selection could prove to be hurdling newcomer Calix Delafayette.
  1. Ouro Branco
  2. Calix Delafayette
  3. Bulkov
