Hurdles debutant is a maiden of 12 on the level and rated just 65. Best form over 1m2f so this will likely be his maximum over hurdles. Others preferred.

4/7
High-class bumper performer who was third in the Cheltenham champion bumper. Appreciates cut in the ground but effective on good so no concerns there. Interesting debutant with potential to be top class.

Showed some ability in three bumpers but well beaten in relatively ordinary novice hurdles at Plumpton and Fontwell when last seen. Looks more the sort for maidens or handicaps.

Ran with promise on debut in a Fontwell bumper before fading having pulled quite hard. Bare form of that gives him a lot to find but showed he does have ability.

16/1
Point-to-point winner who won a bumper here on his debut under rules. Very disappointing in three subsequent hurdle races, beaten 50L plus on each occasion. Surely manage better but best watched for now.

Ran well on his debut under rules when second at Chepstow (2m, good to soft). Winner won again on Tuesday to frank the form and he would have pushed that rival even harder but for an error three out. Sure to go well.

16/1
25/1 winner of a 2m Kempton bumper on debut before shade disappointing under positive tactics at Ayr next time. Enough ability to win hurdle races but this looks a tough spot to start.
80/1 and never really involved on racecourse debut at Uttoxeter last month in a 2m novice hurdle. Beaten 36L there so magnitude of his task today can't be underestimated.

Useful at his best on the level although form deteriorated. Only beaten one rival home in two maiden hurdles for this yard and was 75L and 33L behind respectively. Can't fancy him at present.

Warwick bumper winner yet to transfer that promise to hurdling with three starts all seeing her well behind. 45L 11th at Worcester illustrates how much she would have to improve.

Forecasts

Claimantakinforgan (4/7), Lostintranslation (5/2), Fly Du Charmil (16/1), Mere Ironmonger (16/1), Filemon (25/1), Windshear (33/1), Faheem (33/1), Odello (33/1), The Manuscript (33/1), Archimento (50/1)

Verdict

This looks something of a match and it is worth chancing CLAIMANTAKINFORGAN on his hurdles debut He was close to the top of the tree in bumpers last season and Nicky Henderson will have him well schooled for this. He will have to jump well and be pretty close to full fitness first time out however because Lostintranslation is a worthy adversary who has the benefit of hurdling experience and a recent run. Of the others Mere Ironmonger may prove the best having showed ability in bumpers.
  1. Claimantakinforgan
  2. Lostintranslation
  3. Mere Ironmonger
