C&D winner from a much lower mark in February but improvement was underlined by successive wins at Haydock in the summer. Held off a revised mark at Nottingham last time and has work to do from an outside draw.

Was running well earlier in the year without getting his head in front, including on the AW. Decent first run for this yard and hopes pinned on first-time blinkers snapping a losing streak which stretches all the way back to 2013.

Didn't show too much ability in a couple of starts for James Fanshawe earlier in the year and no improvement on his debut for this yard at Newcastle last month. May do better now sent handicapping.

Multiple C&D winner in her younger days but her Ffos Las win in the summer came from out of the blue and it was a very weak affair. Soundly beaten at Haydock since and others appeal more.

A 15 race maiden but ran well when finishing runner-up on the AW at Lingfield over 5f on per penultimate start. Followed that with an abject effort at Brighton and others look more persuasive.

Came good at the sixth time of asking when winning from a 4lb lower mark at Yarmouth and hasn't quite had the run of the race in two subsequent starts. Returns from a break and current mark remains workable.

Just the one win from 18 starts for Nigel Tinker but won at Newcastle on just his second start for Paul Midgley last time out in July. Running for another new yard here from 4lb higher and is respected.

Admirable veteran who was just touched off at Chelmsford over this trip on his penultimate outing. Beaten favourite last time out at Kempton but not beaten far and remains of interest as he searches for a 14th career win.

All three successes have been on artificial surfaces (0 from 17 on turf) and several near-misses since winning off this mark at Lingfield in March. Poor on turf last time but considered back on the AW.

No win since December 2015, and had looked a long way below his best prior to finishing a close third of seven over 5f at Kempton last time out. Same mark here so dangerous to discount.

Lady Joanna Vassah,v18
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Jack Osborn(7)| T: R C Guest| OR:  49| D
16/1
Winner over C&D and in excellent form of late, winning at Musselburgh and last time out at Kempton. Climbing the weights slowly but demands respect from the foot of the handicap in her current vein.

Forecasts

Tidal's Baby (11/8), Cool Breeze (9/2), Frank The Barber (13/2), Chip Or Pellet (12/1), Archie Stevens (14/1), Swendab (16/1), Lady Joanna Vassa (16/1), Teepee Time (18/1), Roubles (22/1), Regal Miss (25/1), Your Gifted (33/1)

Verdict

A wide-open race in which none are over-convincing, so the answer lie in arguably the least exposed runner in the field, COOL BREEZE. David Simcock's filly is better than she has shown in two starts since winning quite takingly at Yarmouth in the summer and remains of interest from her present mark, particularly aided by a low draw. Lady Joanna Vassa has her limitations but is in good heart right now and is unlikely to be far away whilst Roubles is entitled to respect on her handicap debut.
  1. Cool Breeze
  2. Lady Joanna Vassa
  3. Roubles
