Sees out 3m well on soft ground and won a couple of similar races last winter from slightly lower marks. Rise in the weights/class found him out at Haydock in April and may have needed his latest run. Not ruled out from 2lb lower.
Scored on soft/heavy over hurdles, though most of his winning chase form has been on good to soft, including four successes here. 5lb lower than when recording the last of those in February and therefore enters the picture.
Relishes heavy ground and goes well here, having scored over 3m½f over fences and a 3m1½f hurdle. Has shown that he can compete from this mark, though clearly needs to find some improvement to win from it.
Goes well on soft ground, though still to prove it on heavy. Just about gets home over 3m, though better over a bit shorter and this trip on the forecast ground will certainly test his stamina. Arguably still unexposed. Market check advised.
Proven over C&D with a 2L second here (soft) in February, though had enough speed to drop back to 2m4f and win last time. Acts on heavy ground, competitive from this mark and has to enter calculations.
Made a bit of improvement last year at around 2m4f-2m5f, winning at Towcester in December. Handles heavy ground and comes here after a break, which followed an equal career best when tried over a similar trip at Cheltenham in April. Not ruled out.
Proved the depth of his stamina when scoring over 4m at Hexham (heavy) last year. Handicapper in control since and a 3lb upward nudge for his latest run in January won't help. This should blow off the cobwebs for more thorough tests to come.
Has won on heavy and also over a similar trip and is now 4lb lower than when scoring at Cartmel in May. The return to this trip should help, while cheekpieces in which he won last time now swapped for visor. Claims if it has a positive effect.
Both his wins have come on heavy ground, while he stays further than this. 7lb higher today than when scoring over 3m at Perth last time, which was a career best, but there is scope for a bit more from him over this trip and he again has claims.
Yet to win here but has run some good races and put up a career-best over C&D at the track. Has won on heavy ground, though from 6lb out of the handicap and on a 16-race losing run, others are preferred this time.
Forecasts
Bigirononhiship (7/4), Landmeafortune (6/1), Courtown Oscar (7/1), Shanroe Santos (7/1), Kap Jazz (7/1), Carrigdhoun (17/2), Goohar (20/1), Presented (25/1), Munsaab (28/1), Itstimeforapint (33/1)
Competitive fayre here and the suggestion is BIGIRONONHISHIP. Rose Dobbin's six-year-old goes on the ground and has already run a good race over C&D, so with potential for improvement he may be capable of defying this mark. Kap Jazz is respected, though along with the need to prove himself in these conditions, he also has stamina doubts to allay, both on pedigree and racecourse form. Goohar is open to more improvement over this trip, as is Landmeafortune, while old boy Carrigdhoun is on a dangerous mark and along with Shanroe Santos, cannot be ruled out.
- Bigirononhiship
- Landmeafortune
- Carrigdhoun
