Missed the break on debut (5f,soft) but still beat three subsequent winners. Related to useful middle-distance performers and out of a Group Three winning mare who stayed 1m2f, so would be expected to get this far.

Not knocked about after a slow start on debut at Thirsk in early September. Less promise in last week's York defeat and she makes more appeal for a future in handicaps.

€65,000 breeze-up purchase; first foal; unraced dam out of French Group-placed 7f winning half-sister to 1m Group 1 winner Tamayuz. Yard are 3-41 with this age group in 2017 but a market check is still advisable.

Plenty of promise on Haydock debut but was never travelling well at Redcar two weeks ago. Would be hard to fancy if that is the more reliable evidence of her ability.

Official rating gives her work to do in this company. Proven at the trip but having run to a fairly consistent level, she needs to find several pounds more.

Entitled to win this on spring form but her performances have suffered since encountering soft ground. Has run in the Queen Mary, the Totepool Two-Year-Old Trophy and a Listed event during a busy campaign. Blinkered now so worth a market check.

Improving with every run including fifth of nine beaten 3¾L last time out in a Leicester novice over 7f. Work to do in this grade and handicapping may be a more lucrative route.

€47,000 yearling by Epaulette out of Sweet Kristeen. A half-sister to four winners including Rule Breaker and Cliche. There was little to take from her Newcastle debut to suggest she would be up to winning at this level.

Has faced some smart horses this season and this represents her easiest test. Runner-up in a very good race at Chelmsford last time and trainer 5-9 with runners here.

Yard just 2-69 with this age group in 2017 and this filly has several pounds to find based on official ratings.

Yard have been struggling for much of the year and in particular with this age group. Related to an AW winning miler and another in Italy.

Zahraa8
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-12| J: K Shoemark| T: R Brisland
12/1
Bred for speed but two runs over 7f have revealed she has the necessary stamina. Has appeared green on both appearances and her form is not that far short of the standard required to take this.

Forecasts

Perfect Thought (5/4), Crotchet (3/1), Lady Anjorica (17/2), Kirbec (10/1), Zahraa (12/1), Lady Willpower (16/1), Military Madame (25/1), Chantresse (33/1), Salire (50/1), Ayton (66/1), Symphonic (66/1), Aphaea (100/1)

Verdict

The form of Crotchet's debut looks solid enough but there are questions now on a quicker surface with an extra 2f to travel. Her pedigree has stamina in it, however the concession of 6lb to Perfect Thought may prove a bigger issue. Willie Haggas' filly has been unlucky to meet some useful horses and there is every likelihood that her BHA rating, which is the best in this, underestimates her. Zahraa, who looks the type to continue improving, and Lady Anjorica are the most interesting of the rest.
  1. Perfect Thought
  2. Crotchet
  3. Zahraa
