Presenting gelding who has sorted out his jumping winning a valuable contest at Killarney in July. Thought good enough for a couple of graded races last term and one for the shortlist.
Another of the more lightly-raced contenders, he beat The Game Changer over 2m at Naas in November when last spotted jumping fences. Comes here on the back of a disappointing run in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham. Worth a market check.
Winner over an extended 2m at Fairyhouse on his penultimate start. Finished a decent fourth at Punchestown in April and likely to run well once more.
Winner at the Galway festival over 2m2f but was subsequently pulled-up at Killarney off a revised mark. From powerful yard but likely to struggle on return to chasing.
End of season form dipped a little with a heavy defeat at the Aintree Grand National meeting following a promising series of performances in the spring including a fourth of 24 in the Johnny Henderson at Cheltenham.
Fifth of eight in a Fairyhouse novice handicap chase over 2m½f following being pulled up in the Arkle at Cheltenham, before third of nine when badly hampered on seasonal debut at Listowel. Market likely to reveal expectation.
Finished third behind Ballyoisin over 2m1f at Killarney in a handicap chase in July. Since well beaten on the Flat and likely to find this tough going.
Failed to build on a fine second of eight at Wetherby's two-day Christmas meeting with the geldings form taking a dip. Makes stable debut here with market likely to reveal expectations.
Toiling in 12th on stable debut when making a mistake at the last at Killarney on first start this season in August. Will need to improve to figure.
C& D winner of this race last year but has been largely disappointing of late in his chases but has form on heavy ground and is now back on his last winning mark.
Winning point-to-pointer who has also scored in bumper, hurdling and chase company. Finished a gallant second behind Miss Eyecatcher last time out at Tipperary earlier this month.
Not a lot to shout about recently disappointing in his three starts this season. Hard to fancy until he shows signs of some ability.
C& D winner at this meeting two years ago but finished a long way behind Neverushacon last time out and one to avoid in this contest.
Forecasts
Draycott Place (9/2), Ballyoisin (6/1), Doctor Phoenix (6/1), Three Stars (6/1), Jack The Wire (7/1), Neverushacon (8/1), Hurricane Ben (8/1), Tell Us More (12/1), Mr Fiftyone (20/1), Nearly Nama'd (20/1), Dandridge (25/1), Gentleman Duke (33/1), Benemeade (50/1)
Ballyoisin and Hurricane Ben like to get on with things and there could be some changes in the lead in the early stages of this intriguing contest. Those tactics from the front pair could well play to the strength's of the Gordon Elliott debutante DOCTOR PHOENIX who makes his first appearance for the trainer.
- Doctor Phoenix
- Ballyoisin
- Hurricane Ben
