Showed progression in his three bumper starts winning at the third time of asking when putting his experience to good use at Newcastle running out a decisive winner. Bred to stay well and should make his mark over hurdles hailing from a top yard.
Hooded for the first time as he makes his hurdles debut having already won a French bumper on his debut. Far too free on his GB debut in a bumper here last month and will need to settle better to take a hand.
Very much put his experience to good use when taking a Huntingdon bumper on his second start but has failed to build on that. Found a penalty and then a rise in class on the softest ground he'd encountered against him in his next two starts.
Showed ability on his sole start so far in a Kempton Park bumper back in March although there did look to be some attitude in his demeanour. Given his sire (Scorpion) he may be one to treat with caution on his hurdles debut.
Very green on his Taunton bumper debut he failed to make much of an impression like many from this yard in bumpers (poor strike-rate for a leading yard). He did shape like a stayer there and this 2m might just be on the sharp side on his hurdles debut.
The only one in the field with hurdling experience she takes on the boys here getting weight all round. She has a jumps pedigree and is already successful in point-to-points and in bumpers; bred for further than this but can put her experience to good use.
Forecasts
Maria's Benefit (5/4), Al Shahir (11/8), Dentley De Mee (12/1), Darling Maltaix (12/1), Rockpoint (20/1), Pointed And Sharp (20/1)
An interesting opener on a good card and this looks as though this is a race that will produce future winners. Only one of the field has any hurdling experience though and Maria’s Benefit may be able to make use of that although she is bred to get further than this. Darling Maltaix and Rockpoint both come from stables that need respecting in this sphere although both look as though they may need more experience yet. AL SHAHIR took three attempts to get off the mark in bumpers but he was impressive when he did and hails from a yard that have made a good impression in the first few months of the jumps season.
- Al Shahir
- Maria's Benefit
- Darling Maltaix
