Crowne Plaza Leading Jockey & Trainer Championship Claiming Maiden

Off time: 18:01 | Winning time: 1m 24.86s

(4)

Peace Officer^t¹⁴

Age: 4| Weight: 9-6| J: O J Orr⁽³⁾| T: E Lynam| OR: 70

6/1

Finished fourth of 14 in a 1m maiden claimer here a fortnight ago, drops back in trip for this and that should increase chance. Not discounted.

Form: 684

(9)

Backstairs Bounder³⁶

Age: 5| Weight: 9-4| J: K K Hennessy⁽⁵⁾| T: N Slevin

66/1

Well fended off so far in four bumpers, first time dropping below 2m and first experience of the AW, best watched unless significant market move in favour.

Form:

(1)

Smugglers Creek¹⁴

Age: 3| Weight: 9-4| J: P J Smullen| T: M Halford

8/11

Solid progress on second start to finish close second in 1m maiden claimer here a fortnight ago. Smullen stays on for this drop in trip and has to be near the top of any shortlist.

Form: 72

(11)

For Real¹⁶

Age: 4| Weight: 9-2| J: D E Hogan⁽⁵⁾| T: R Roberts

100/1

Interestingly bred Zoffany gelding out of a Galileo mare, related to multiple winners, but didn't offer much on debut at Fairyhouse (6f, soft to heavy) last month. Plenty more needed.

Form: 0

(10)

Hark^p1¹⁶

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: Chris Hayes| T: J A Stack

14/1

Filly has shown some degrees of promise in two turf maidens at Fairyhouse, unable to last home 16 days ago in testing ground over 6f. Cheekpieces added now and could get involved if taking to this surface.

Form: 47

(13)

Live Twice^t³

Age: 4| Weight: 9-1| J: Ronan Whelan| T: P D Deegan| OR: 63

16/1

Has shown plenty of ability in her career despite the fact she's yet to get her head in front in 19 starts. Back down in trip, probably going to find a few better equipped.

Form: 509536

(8)

Sally Gap^p1¹⁶

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: Colin Keane| T: T G McCourt| OR: 72

7/1

Improving all the time on turf lately and could be a big player now back on the AW and sporting cheekpieces for the first time.

Form: 085403

(3)

Sheila's Hope¹⁰

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: C O'Donoghue| T: J C McConnell

40/1

Casamento suffered pair of wide-margin defeats in turf maidens last month over longer trip. Both came with give in the ground, may do better if handling this surface dropping in trip.

Form: 09

(2)

Vanderbilt^b²³

Age: 3| Weight: 9-0| J: Seamie Heffernan| T: D Hogan| OR: 64

25/1

Best effort in six starts for this yard came over 1m at Bellewstown last month (beaten just over 3L). Certainly can't be accused of consistency, but could be capable of having a say in this field.

Form: 4-00730

(5)

Bunnie Eyes

Age: 3| Weight: 8-13| J: R P Downey⁽³⁾| T: D Broad

66/1

Byron filly whose dam was an unraced half-sister to useful winner up to 2m Redspin. Makes debut and watching brief seems the safest option.

Form:

(14)

Queen Meave¹⁴

Age: 3| Weight: 8-13| J: C P Hoban| T: N Carolan

150/1

Modest debut performance when 12th of 14 in a maiden claimer over 1m here, not recovering from a slow start. Others arrive here with stronger credentials.

Form: 0

(12)

Sobistabo^p,h¹⁴

Age: 3| Weight: 8-12| J: D E Sheehy⁽⁵⁾| T: Mrs S Dawson

150/1

Nothing of any consequence in five career starts on turf so far, latest coming in 1m maiden claimer here a fortnight ago, impossible to support on form dropping to 7f.

Form: 00000

(7)

Eadaoins Pet¹⁴

Age: 4| Weight: 8-11| J: Gary Halpin⁽³⁾| T: J Feane| OR: 62

10/1

Filly has posted some fair form in 12 runs, including when not beaten all that for in a 1m handicap here a fortnight ago. Down in trip and back in maiden company, cannot be discounted.

Form: 363057

Delegating^p⁴³

Age: 3| Weight: 9-1| J: Shane Foley| T: M O'Callaghan| OR: 69

10/1

Filly with plenty experience, including going close over C&D this time last year. Running well enough on turf lately and could play a role with cheekpieces restored if running (Third Reserve).

Form: 3-05380

Forecasts

Smugglers Creek (8/11), Peace Officer (6/1), Sally Gap (7/1), Delegating (10/1), Eadaoins Pet (10/1), Calypso Jo (10/1), Hark (14/1), Live Twice (16/1), Vanderbilt (25/1), Dream Invader (33/1), Alpine Pass (33/1), Sheila's Hope (40/1), Bunnie Eyes (66/1), Backstairs Bounder (66/1), For Real (100/1), Sobistabo (150/1), Queen Meave (150/1)

SMUGGLERS CREEK improved here recently on his second start, first after being gelded, and just gave best in a decent battle to the line over a mile. The drop in trip ought not to inconvenience him and it won't be a great surprise to find Pat Smullen steering him home in front now. Peace Officer was finishing well in behind him that evening and can threaten once more while Sally Gap is expected to leave previous AW form behind having improved on turf lately. Ex-Kevin Ryan inmate Calypso Jo might be capable of a decent show on debut for new connections at a price based on this debut effort at Chelmsford in February.
