Frustrating run of placed efforts ended in a Lingfield maiden (6f, good to soft) two starts ago and he followed up in a four-runner handicap at Brighton. Only 1lb higher and handles AW so has to be a leading contender with his confidence high.

Filly scored over C&D in apprentice contest in July and has been in the mix again in both runs since, perhaps given a bit too much to do last time when 2L third of five off this mark. Not ruled out.

Narrow winner at Wolverhampton who was then found wanting off this mark in similar company last time. Needs to improve.

Good effort in 20-runner Ascot contest on reappearance in May but hasn't been able to build on that in three further turf runs. Mark is dropping but was poor on only previous AW run.

Consistent performer has achieved all three career wins on AW, two coming this year and including over this trip. Narrowly beaten here in August and from 1lb higher is set to run well.

Just had the five runs, winning C&D maiden in December. Run with credit in all three turf handicaps this year and should be in the firing line when push comes to shove.

AW maiden winner over this trip at Chelmsford in June, scored again in Yarmouth handicap (6f, soft) in August off mark of 73 and has been competitive in both runs since. Capable of a good showing back on artificial surface.

A winner of a maiden on the AW at Wolverhampton over 7f in April, has continued to go well since but arrives here having run well below his best over 7f at this track last month. Blinkers added now.

Has four wins from nine starts on AW, finished second of 12 over this trip 10 days ago at Wolverhampton and must enter calculations from 1lb higher.

Falling fast in the handicap after some very moderate efforts over a variety of trips this year. Was supported in betting over C&D last month and ran with some promise when 2¼L fifth of seven. Needs to step up on that.

Has won two of previous three starts, most recently producing career-best effort to land Epsom handicap off mark of 69. Up another 5lb on strength of that, but has winning AW form over the trip and not to be ruled out.

Forecasts

Fivetwoeight (11/4), Summerghand (7/2), Buxted Dream (5/1), Seprani (8/1), Dark Side Dream (12/1), Cappananty Con (12/1), Hackney Road (12/1), Mulzim (12/1), Zefferino (12/1), Lord Cooper (16/1), Dutiful Son (33/1), War Whisper (50/1)

Verdict

LORD COOPER is one of the more solid propositions in this field, having already scored over C&D and won four from nine on the AW so far. The Sir Percy gelding was a close second over this trip at Wolverhampton recently and from just 1lb higher now seems certain to have a say in the finish. Seprani and Summerghand, first and second at Epsom last month, are contenders again while the hat-trick seeking Buxted Dream is clearly in excellent heart. Dark Side Dream and Hackney Road are worth mentioning in a wide open heat.
  1. Lord Cooper
  2. Buxted Dream
  3. Seprani
