Well beaten in four starts this year having switched to this yard, comes here after a 78-day break and is nosediving dramatically in trip. First time dipping below 1m, hard to fancy.

Winner off a 3lb higher mark on the AW at Lingfield over 5f back in January. Poor form in the main since including when fifth of six on soft ground at Yarmouth in July over this trip.

Has run some decent races here this season without looking like gaining a victory, well held again over 5½f at Bath 16 days ago but in here on much better terms.

Seven-race maiden who has dropped 13lb in four starts since going handicapping. First start for new handler but requires a sizeable change in fortune to play leading role dropping back from 7f.

Has run some modest races since winning his only race to date, when successful over 5f at Beverley back in May 2015. Last of nine over 6f at Lingfield in August (good to soft). Hard to fancy.

Bits and pieces of promise shown this year, notably at Lingfield in May when ½L second of eight over this trip. Dropped the best part of a stone in weight since, chance on these terms if able to find best form.

Disappointing since finishing a head second over 6f at Goodwood (good) back in May and beaten a long way here over 7f last month, making it 37 career starts without a win.

Has yet to hit the frame in eight attempts in maiden and handicap company. Not of any obvious interest, having been beaten best part of 10L over similar trip at Bath last month. Wears first-time hood.

Former C&D winner in October 2014 from a mark of 54, well below par at Lingfield in May when last spotted and market may guide expectations on return.

Age: 4|  Weight: 9-2| J: David Egan(3)| T: R C Guest| OR:  45
4/1
18-race maiden who has been off the track since May, and looks to be very much up against it on these terms in return.

Forecasts

Essaka (3/1), Dalalah (4/1), Billy's Boots (5/1), Deer Song (7/1), Popsilca (15/2), Joshlee (10/1), Cherry Leyf (12/1), Leonardo (12/1), Special Code (20/1), Bubbly Bailey (50/1)

Verdict

Essaka ran well enough at Bath last time considering he was running from out of the handicap and a reproduction of that effort must give him a chance now. Popsilca has won from a higher mark than this already this year while former C&D scorer Bubbly Bailey is worth noting on return to action off what is now a very workable mark. This is anything but strong and if BILLY'S BOOTS could produce the sort of effort he showed over the trip at Lingfield in May, he'd surely have solid claims having plummeted down the ratings since. He earns a hopeful call on that basis.
  1. Billy's Boots
  2. Popsilca
  3. Essaka
