Much better on his second handicap start than on his first last time out (stamina not tested as much) and only beaten by an improver. Now returns after a break off a 7lb higher mark and one to consider given his last run.
Managed to win back-to-back start over hurdles then fences looking a reformed/improved performer. Reverted to type last time out over fences though (jumped poorly) and has to cope with a higher mark now.
Inconsistent performer who stays well but is becoming very unreliable and would have to be on a going day to take a hand here. Never quite sure what to expect from her and given her attitude comes with risks attached.
Goes well at Chepstow and won easily there over fences in April and has run well over hurdles subsequently despite needing more of a test. Ridden far too aggressively last time but a more sensible ride sees him in the mix here.
Like many from this yard he was well backed on his debut for them but failed to win and although he's shown placed form in two starts since the handicapper is starting to take his measure. Respected but not unbeatable.
Returns from a long break here having fallen last time (too far out to draw any conclusions). Hasn't had an awful lot of racing and could have some improvement left in him but hard to construct a solid case.
Best form came when he was a Wincanton winner in April 2016 over shorter appearing to appreciate a sounder surface than he will face here. Lightly raced since and raced in a very lazy fashion last time on the Flat.
Form overall hardly inspires and despite having a stiff task at the weights when last seen in a Ludlow novice her appeal here is limited. The longer trip may help off a much reduced mark but risky proposition overall.
0/13 overall and well held on her last two starts she comes here with very few positives to her name. Can only be watched here after her recent struggles.
Capitalised on his lower chase mark when winning on his penultimate start (jumped well) at Newton Abbot and improved again last time even if he was beaten. Goes again here off the same mark and well worth considering back over hurdles and stays well.
Finally got off the mark when taking a Worcester handicap chase off a mark of 82. Not the most reliable though and hasn't backed up that win and his attitude generally gets in the way.

Forecasts
Varene De Vauzelle (15/8), Culm Counsellor (4/1), Classico Dais (5/1), Thady Quil (7/1), Dotties Dilema (10/1), Cropley (16/1), Phangio (16/1), The Lion Man (20/1), Definately Vinnie (25/1), Nicki's Nipper (25/1), Damby's Star (50/1), Here Comes Molly (66/1)
Varene De Vauzelle gets another chance to break his maiden and given his connections is more than likely to attract some market support but his overall record suggest that he will be underpriced in the market. Classico Dais has to be respected coming back from a long layoff but may just need this with Phangio coming into the mix if he’s given a more sensible and conservative ride here. Neither Dotties Dilema nor Nicki’s Nipper can be trusted and this might see CULM COUNSELLOR cash in on this mark switched back to hurdles having been in good form over fences.
- Culm Counsellor
- Classico Dais
- Varene De Vauzelle
