Lightly-raced bumper/maiden hurdle winner, returns here from 551- day layoff, ought to know his job hailing from this yard and market support will be noted.
Some smart for in Grade 1 novice hurdles last term, returns from the summer recess to commence chase career and is very much one to pay attention to for the Elliott team.
Last spotted being pulled up in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham, is lightly raced for a seven-year-old and well thought of by connections. First start over fences and must go on the shortlist with yard in super form.
Slightly disappointing on chase bow at Listowel this month (2m6f, heavy), best form over hurdles came at around 2m4f, so this drop in trip could favour him. Too soon to be writing him off.
Third over 2m1f at Navan in November last on sole start over these obstacles, has the potential to do much better and is on the shortlist for this contest on return from summer break.
Winner of a point-to-point in February, makes rules debut here for new yard and could be in the mix if ready to go.
Won over hurdles last time out at Killarney but has plenty to find with some of these on form shown in that sphere and two previous outings over fences have been tame.
Yard in good form but unconvincing in three starts over fences since late August and hard to make the case for at the moment. May be one for handicaps and looks to be stable second string in this.
Well held in 2m3f Cork bumper in April on sole outing under rules, winner of a point-to-point at Dromahane in May but has some improvement to find in this line-up.
Decent handicapper over timber, represents yard in good form and looked to be stable first string on jockey bookings. Makes chase bow on return from a break and not dismissed.
Progressed nicely to win a maiden hurdle last season, this will be a first run beyond 2m and unless market suggests different, may be best given time to warm to this new discipline.
Forecasts
Brelade (11/8), De Name Escapes Me (9/2), Gurteen (5/1), Tout Est Permis (8/1), Babbling Stream (12/1), Exactoris (14/1), Thirsty Work (16/1), Lasoscar (20/1), Shower Cross (50/1), Rebelion Boy (50/1), Hugo 'n Taz (50/1)
Brelade has some smart Grade 1 novice hurdling form in the book and will surely prove equally if not more adept in this discipline. It isn't hard to see him making a decent start over fences and any significant support for Gordon Elliott's charge should prove worth noting. GURTEEN however is also one that will have a future jumping these obstacles and he has the benefit of experience having run well in a similar event at Navan last season. That is enough to swing things in his favour with both returning from their summer breaks. De Name Escapes Me and Thirsty Work are not overlooked readily while the long-absent Babbling Stream adds a bit of intrigue to proceedings.
- Gurteen
- Brelade
