At his best on the Fibresand at Southwell (three time winner there 5f-6f) and is becoming high in the weights. Newcastle debut.
A three time winner earlier in the year, but all of those successes came over 7f and he remains 4lb above his last winning mark. Possibly sharper for a recent run at Doncaster.
Kept to Ayr of late (unsuccessfully) since winning off this mark at Catterick in May (6f good to firm) when beating stablemate Meshardal by ¾L. No qualms with this surface despite his sole AW success coming on Fibresand.
Finished a narrowly beaten runner up in each of his last two starts at Kempton (6f) and on that evidence should be thereabouts, but has risen a combined total of 3lb without winning.
Just the sole victory on his CV, but it was a neck success in a 5f course maiden in October 2016. Produced a couple of creditable placed efforts at Pontefract during July, but hasn't quite replicated that form since.
Stablemate of Mishaal who won on the Kempton Polytrack for Sir Michael Stoute back in 2013 and has since went onto become a solid handicapper for various trainers. Well treated now based on his sole previous Newcastle effort (October 2016).
A two time career winner over the minimum trip, most recently at Carlisle in July (from this mark). Showed he handles this surface when fifth of seven to Indian Raj last month, but this longer trip is the concern.
Maiden for David O'Meara, but off the mark at the first attempt for this trainer at Doncaster in April (6f good to firm). A worry she's been out of action since, but a 6lb higher mark might not prove beyond her switched to the AW.
Eight wins from 84 races, so has been a good servant to connections. Not so effective recently, but has slipped down the weights. Non runner at Redcar on Wednesday with a vets certificate.
Yet to sample success for this trainer after being picked out of a Lingfield claimer in March (ex Jeremy Gask). Performed with credit initially, but that has now faded slightly. That said; becoming slightly better treated accordingly.
Won just once in 24 starts, but tough to knock his consistent profile and has a few near misses on his CV. Goes well here; mainly over 7f (2,3,4,4), and his recent Doncaster conqueror Deansgate could frank that form in the previous race.
7lb higher than when successful over C&D in October 2016 (won by a short-head) and that has proved his downfall since a further success at Pontefract in June. Should win more races when his mark eases.
Spent his formative years with the Hills family, and last won in October 2015 for Charles Hills (7f at Doncaster). Joined this yard for 10,000 gns in October 2016, and yet to thrive, but could capitalise on a reduced mark at some point.
Below par since winning by a nose at Haydock early last month (6f good to soft). Remains 3lb higher than that winning mark, but is unbeaten on the AW (1 from 1); a shock 33/1 winner of a C&D maiden in September 2016.
Forecasts
Mishaal (4/1), Duke Cosimo (6/1), Perfect Symphony (6/1), Athollblair Boy (15/2), Round The Island (9/1), Haworth (10/1), B Fifty Two (11/1), Vallarta (14/1), Shesthedream (16/1), Major Crispies (20/1), Treaty Of Rome (20/1), The Nazca Lines (25/1), Salvatore Fury (33/1), Tavener (33/1)
A tricky sprint handicap to fathom. Michael Herrington has proved himself as an adept handler of sprinters (particularly on the AW) and his duo of Mishaal and DUKE COSIMO could play a leading role. The former has twice gone close on the Kempton Polytrack, and deserves to find a race, but is continually creeping up the weights. Conversely the latter (who is also struggling to win) is slipping back down the weights. Without doubt Duke Cosimo needs to do more, but he's unexposed on the AW, and was 4L third to Spanish City from a mark of 80 on his sole visit to Newcastle in October 2016, yet he lines up tonight from a much reduced mark of 68, so could be worth chancing. Of the others, the returning Doncaster scorer Shesthedream and the consistent Athollblair Boy command respect.
- Duke Cosimo
- Athollblair Boy
- Shesthedream
