20,000 gns yearling who was off the mark at the first attempt at Ripon last month (1m good) despite showing clear signs of greeness. Reasons to ignore his latest Chelmsford effort (raced wide), but that form looks strong enough in any case.
25,000 gns yearling by Poet's Voice who was never really able to get involved when fourth of eight to Lisheen Castle at Hamilton on debut (1m+ soft). Better expected with experience gathered.
17,000 gns yearling who didn't get the clearest of passages, but was never able to get on terms when eighth of nine to Morning Wonder on debut at Leicester (1m good to soft) just over a fortnight ago.
10,000 gns yearling who needs to improve significantly on what he has shown in either start during the course of this month if seeking to be involved. Looks more of a nursery type.
Never really competitive on debut at Thirsk earlier this month (1m good to soft), and has since left the care of David O'Meara. No obvious reason to expect significant improvement on stable debut unless market forces dictate.
£4,500 yearling by Lilbourne Lad out of Gris Ladera (a 1m winner). Made a low key start (third) in a weak Newcastle 1m maiden won by Champarisi last week, but should feel the benefit of that initial experience.
$15,000 yearling from a Japanese mare (Universal Peace). Kept on well enough without making in roads on the winner (We Are The World) when 1¾L second on debut at Kempton last month (1m). Turf debut.
Stablemate of The Knot Is Tied. 15,000 gns yearling who finished third of eight to Apple Anni on debut at Beverley last week (7½f soft) and looks capable of building upon that effort with a better break from the stalls.
Forecasts
Hyanna (10/3), Austrian School (7/2), Great Shot Sam (7/2), Unwritten (4/1), Sunhill Lad (8/1), The Fiddler (11/1), Sincerely Resdev (33/1), The Knot Is Tied (33/1)
In many ways this race should revolve around the question as to which horse will make the most progress from debut to second start. Great Shot Sam posted a reasonable opening effort, but that was on the Polytrack at Kempton, and that form has yet to be really tested, so more value can be possibly sought elsewhere. The suspicion was that Sunhill Lad didn't achieve too much in finishing third in a moderate Newcastle maiden last week whilst both Hyanna and Unwritten didn't scream certain future winner on either of their respective debuts. Therefore, the penalised Ripon scorer AUSTRIAN SCHOOL gets the nod. He has the most experience, yet still appears very raw, and can be forgiven his 'lesser' Chelmsford effort (raced wide) which came in a race which represents much the best form on offer.
- Austrian School
- Unwritten
- Great Shot Sam
