Back from twelve months off the track at Thirsk earlier this month (previously tailed off in the 2016 Ayr Gold Cup). Appeared badly in need of the run that day, weakening after racing prominently. Down 5lb since.

Has enjoyed a largely productive year and gained due reward for some consistent efforts when winning at York in July (6f good). A revised mark has just proved beyond him since, but he did run very well with cut when edged out at Haydock in August.

Has put a few stalls problems behind him and re-emerged in rude health this month with a decisive success at Thirsk (6f soft) and a good effort under a 6lb penalty at Doncaster. Up another 2lb, but a big run anticipated.

Doesn't win all that often, but is regularly on the premises so tends to get little respite from the assessor. Claims on his recent Chepstow efforts (beaten a neck and a short head latest) with soft ground no problem in the slightest.

Talented performer as a juvenile for Saeed Bin Suroor (2015), but sold cheaply in September 2016 (£9,000) and presumably has had a few problems. Not found his feet yet for this trainer but falling sharply in the weights and the blinkers are applied.

Beaten ¾L by Lexington Times at York in July (6f good), but not so good latterly and plenty to do to reverse placings with Kenny The Captain on his latest Thirsk effort (fourth).

Has produced some solid efforts for this yard in 2017, and was particularly consistent early doors. Has fallen to his last winning mark (6f soft at Hamilton in June), but needs to break better than normal from this inside berth.

A four time career winner who should perhaps be renamed Mr Pontefract (loves this track). However, is paying the price to the handicapper for a pair of 6f successes in July (including over C&D) and requires a career best effort to prevail.

Has endured a hectic campaign with twelve starts since mid May, but has largely stood up to regular racing well. Remains 4lb above her last winning mark (at Leicester in May) and based upon her most recent efforts others make more appeal.

Both career successes have come at this track (early in his career), and he's only been back here once since then. Has found life tough from marks in the 80's, but falling now and ran well when beaten a neck by Kowaiyess at Epsom recently.

Forecasts

Start Time (7/2), Kenny The Captain (9/2), Grandad's World (5/1), Inexes (6/1), Letmestopyouthere (7/1), Lexington Times (9/1), Pomme De Terre (10/1), Mr Orange (16/1), Love Oasis (25/1), Mujassam (33/1)

Verdict

KENNY THE CAPTAIN is a talented horse when on song, and he's exactly in that mould at present as he demonstrated by winning at Thirsk (6f soft), and going down by 1L to Buccaneers Vault under a 6lb penalty at Doncaster since. He's another 2lb higher today and has a wide draw to overcome, but boasts very strong winning claims nevertheless. Grandad's World appears ideally suited by this track and is handicapped to go close after a much improved effort at Epsom latest, and he rates as a likely danger along with the admirably consistent Lexington Times.

  3. Lexington Times
