Nine race maiden who has fallen 13lb since switched to handicaps in September 2016. Back to 5f for the first time since that handicap debut with cheek-pieces replacing the blinkers which were tried latest.
Won just once in 12 starts, over C&D in February from a 2lb lower mark (beat Midnightly by 1½L). Runner up on turf at Brighton earlier in the month and every chance if able to replicate that effort.
Six race maiden, but finished second from this mark at Chepstow last month (5f good to soft) to all the way Irish trained winner Passionatta. That Johnny Murtagh trained filly has won since at Carlisle, so she deserves respect.
A very infrequent career winner (1 from 26), but most racing surfaces seem to come alike to him and he handles this track. Down the weights, but the balance of probability says no despite a positive jockey booking.
Well behind Mercers over C&D in February (reared leaving the stalls), but was successful on her next start over C&D in March at odds of 33/1. More moderate on turf since, and not the most convincing profile overall.
Penalised for last week's gritty Bath success; beating today's rival Fleeting Glimpse by ½L (5½f good to soft). Effective at this track; a dual 6f course winner, and could make the most of a decent draw.
Respected on the best of his C&D form, with his last four runs here reading; 2,5,1,3. Has competed from higher marks on turf of late without success, but not disgraced, and likely more effective back on Polytrack from a lesser mark.
Three time C&D winner who enjoyed a most productive mid summer until the winning run came to an end at Goodwood latest. Most likely to seek to make all, as he did when winning over C&D in July, but 7lb higher now.
Not won since her second career start at Wetherby in May 2016 (5½f good), but in reasonable order of late, twice finishing runner up over this trip at Yarmouth since late June.
Her sole career success came in a 6f handicap at Kempton for Andrew Balding (April), but she'd been more moderate in four starts for this trainer until going down narrowly to Evening Starlight at Bath last week. On a lowly mark and could capitalise.
Forecasts
Exquisite Ruby (4/1), Entertaining Ben (5/1), Prominna (11/2), Evening Starlight (11/2), Grand Myla (6/1), Mercers (8/1), Ask The Guru (10/1), Fleeting Glimpse (12/1), Miss Rosina (18/1), Snoozy Sioux (40/1)
Evening Starlight and FLEETING GLIMPSE fought out a good battle at Bath last week, with the Ron Hodges trained filly just coming out on top by half a length. She carries a 6lb penalty for that success, and whilst having the better of the draw today looks hard pushed to confirm those placings with the well treated Patrick Chamings trained filly. Fleeting Glimpse has already proved herself on Polytrack at Kempton earlier this year (for Andrew Balding), and whilst most effective over 6f, should be making strong late headway. The chief threat might just come from Exquisite Ruby. She is a lightly raced youngster, who returns from the same mark as she finished second from to subsequent Carlisle winner Passionatta at Chepstow last month.
- Fleeting Glimpse
- Exquisite Ruby
- Mercers
