Scored over a similar trip at Beverley in May when 5lb lower and has been runner-up on his last three outings from lower marks than today. That makes this look a tough assignment, especially on soft ground.
Won on good to soft at Ayr (1m) last year for David O'Meara and goes into this first start for his latest trainer on a 3lb lower mark. Goes well on soft ground and, if reinvigorated by his new surroundings, he could go very close.
Yet to win on turf or to show any worthwhile form on soft ground, so although he has the ability to get competitive from today's mark, he looks up against it given today's conditions.
Races over his optimum trip here and handles soft ground. Last win was at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) in August, but well beaten twice since. Possible that softer ground may help with a return to form, but clearly carries risks.
Her best two performances have been here, winning over C&D (good to firm) last season and runner-up over 1m (good) in June. Encouragement from that and now has first start for this yard from 2lb higher. Each-way claims.
Broke his duck at the 16th attempt over C&D (good to firm) last time out. Up 4lb for that and on ground slower than he has ever encountered, it takes a leap of faith to see him following-up, but he is not ruled out.
One of his two wins came on soft ground at Thirsk (6f) last year, but he has rarely made an impact since. Would have claims from this mark if able to repeat his Pontefract effort from July, but has plenty to prove on subsequent form.
Sole success was over C&D (good to firm) in May from a 8lb higher mark. Well held in all starts since then and sliding in the weights, but precious little encouragement in his 4L defeat at Thirsk last time.
Goes really well on soft ground, yet has not raced on this ground since October last year. A 3lb drop after a reasonable effort at Thirsk last time puts her on an attractive mark and on this ground a return to form would not surprise.
Acts on good to soft/soft ground and goes well at this venue. Has gone well a couple of times from higher marks this season, but has it to prove over this far. Claims if she stays.

Insurplus (9/2), Grinty (5/1), Sunnua (5/1), Tadaany (11/2), Connemera Queen (13/2), Fine Example (8/1), Rose Eclair (12/1), Flying Fantasy (12/1), Dark Forest (14/1), Kommander Kirkup (33/1), Hugie Boy (33/1)
TADAANY acts well on soft ground and is the suggestion here given that he is on a handy mark and may be rejuvenated by his new trainer. Sunnua relishes these conditions and she could come back to form, while Rose Eclair is another to consider, though she has to prove that she sees this out. Insurplus and Connemara Queen are others with claims.
- Tadaany
- Sunnua
- Rose Eclair
