9/4
Proven performer in the likely conditions who ran a fine race to finish second at Epsom last time out. Further progression possible with this rider in the saddle for the first time.

Collateral Beauty30
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-4| J: J Garritty| T: R A Fahey| OR:  66

Was in much deeper company when well beaten on handicap debut at Newmarket last time out, but how she shaped on the soft ground there has to be a concern.

Claramara18
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: P J McDonald| T: C & M Johnston| OR:  64
10/1
By far her best effort to date came over this trip at Thirsk two starts ago; struggled with the switch to handicap company last time out but can put that experience to good use here.

Elysee Star23
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-2| J: G Lee| T: B Haslam| OR:  64
11/2
Has posted three solid efforts in novice events so far and makes her handicap debut now off what should prove to be a workable opening mark. Like many of these needs to prove herself on the ground.

Show Princess23
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-1| J: D C Costello| T: M Appleby| OR:  63
20/1
Put in by far the best of her three efforts in novice company at Redcar last time having been stepped up to this trip, opening mark not the most appealing but still no surprise if she runs well.

Fastalong5
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-10| J: D Allan| T: T D Easterby| OR:  58
7/2
Has shaped with promise on a couple of occasions up to now but hasn't shown enough in two nurseries so far - including over a furlong shorter at this course last time - to suggest she is capable of winning this.

Plansina21
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-5| J: Rachel Richardson(3)| T: T D Easterby| OR:  53
9/1
Only fair efforts in selling/handicap company recently and just 3lb lower than her opening mark currently. Others look likelier types here.

Lil Gem38
Age: 2|  Weight: 8-2| J: J Fanning| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  50
20/1
Well-beaten on handicap debut at Musselburgh last time out when finishing behind Plansina plenty more needed in likely much softer conditions down 2lb.

Forecasts

Powerful Society (9/4), Fastalong (7/2), Elysee Star (11/2), Collateral Beauty (11/2), Plansina (9/1), Claramara (10/1), Show Princess (20/1), Lil Gem (20/1)

Verdict

Top-weight is never an easy burden to carry in a handicap, particularly a nursery, but POWERFUL SOCIETY can overcome that disadvantage here. Richard Fahey's charge impressed both over this trip at Epsom last time and on heavy ground at Nottingham the time before. Putting together those two factors off what should be a fair opening mark on handicap debut he looks set for another huge run. He is taken to see off Elysee Star, who has the form in the book to make an impact but needs to prove herself on the ground, and Claramara, who can do better on her second start in handicap company.
  1. Powerful Society
  2. Elysee Star
  3. Claramara
