Victorious on the AW at Lingfield over this distance in December but disappointing in the main since and well held over 1m4f at Newmarket (good-to-firm) last time out.
Landed his maiden here by a wide margin and has stepped up on that since with some good efforts in turf handicaps. However, his mark always seems to rise each time his turn looks near and that is the case again here.
Handicap mark looks fair on the balance of his Newcastle victory. Will improve for his reappearance two weeks ago and yard have utilised this rider to good effect in 2017.
Readily landed a weak maiden at Newbury and handicapper has taken few chances. Scope to improve and in form stable are an impressive 28-85 around here.
Made all to beat an odds-on favourite over C&D a month ago. Not harshly treated here on either that effort or his previous run at Newcastle. Stable going well and rider has a 25% strike rate for them.
Forecasts
Gold Star (5/6), Abjar (4/1), Laqab (4/1), Batts Rock (8/1), Plutocracy (18/1), Angrywhitepyjamas (18/1), Afonso De Sousa (50/1)
The three-year-olds ABJAR and Gold Star represent in form yards that do well around here. It is easier to argue the former is well handicapped on what he has shown and his proven effectiveness on this surface strengthens his case. Laqab and Angrywhitepyjamas look best of the rest.
