Paid his way over Jumps and can usually be relied upon to give his all. Now 8lb lower than his last winning mark but has been below his best of late and needs to bounce back.
Likely candidate to be up with the early pace but the balance of form suggests that he may struggle to remain at the helm when push comes to shove. Others make more appeal.
Back over fences after losing his way a touch over hurdles. But has gone well over fences here in the past and cannot be discounted when the pick of his form is taken into account. Currently 5lb higher than last win though.
Rounded off last season in flying form and has continued to thrive in recent outings. Handicapper now catching up but won with authority last time and not unduly punished on the revised terms. Shortlisted.
Yard has a good history with horses that race in these colours and this fellow certainly looks like another that can pay his way as he gains in experience. Success will likely come at a modest level though and improvement still required this time.
Getting the hang of things over fences and posted a sound effort at Hexham latest. Decent claims if building on that effort and worth a check in the betting.
Seems to save his best for Leicester and has been a touch out of sorts elsewhere of late. Hard to fancy on recent evidence despite appearing to be quite well handicapped just now.
Bit to find with Mercian King judging by their recent encounter at Fontwell but consistent enough to consider for a place in modest event such as this. Today's jockey has guided him to success before, so no forlorn hope if things go his way.
Won a maiden hurdle at this course last year and made a pleasing start to fences back here latest. Needs to step things up considerably this time but not without ability, so at least worth a check in the betting.
Won a handicap here last year from a mark of just 79 and equaled effort last time out. This looks a lot stronger and will take a bold effort from the elder statesman of the field. Out of the weights too.
Already beaten and toiling when unseating the rider last time out. Hard to get enthusiastic about that piece of form and difficult to see the mare landing too many telling blows if others live up to expectations.
Forecasts
Spoilt Rotten (3/1), Mercian King (7/2), Exitas (5/1), Kalaskadesemilley (8/1), The Yank (11/1), Canicallyouback (12/1), Accessallareas (14/1), Oliver's Hill (16/1), Owen Na View (18/1), Dealing River (25/1), Triggywinkle (33/1)
A fair opportunity for MERCIAN KING to confirm his superiority over a few old rivals and he gets the nomination ahead of Dealing River , who likes this course, and Exitas, who has scope for improvement and could go very close in this company. The Yank has a bit to find with the selection but has a feasible chance of getting closer on these terms and is another worth considering.
- Mercian King
- Dealing River
- Exitas
