In fine form on the Tapeta recently, having won and then finished a close second in a competitive affair last time out. Is arguably even better on this surface and has leading claims on the same mark as that last effort.

0/10 in her career and now on her third trainer to date, down another 3lb but seems at her best over this trip and is one for the shortlist, though she has something to prove on this surface.

Good record over this trip and on this surface, and has been in good form of late over this trip bar last time out when he held ground-related excuses. Not the most progressive option in the field but form is solid enough.

Career-low mark here but clearly not at his best lately given how she has previously run off a much higher rating. Seems to enjoy this trip and surface but others still hold more convincing claims.

Out of her depth in maidens but shaped with more promise on handicap debut last time out. Seems to still be improving, though the drop down from 1m doesn't seem to be the obvious move.

Handicap mark has nosedived since his last win at Wolverhampton last February, and a switch of stables has made no apparent difference. First time tongue strap not enough for him to appeal.

C&D winner two starts ago (and again previously to that), but has a high draw to overcome here in addition to the fact he is 4lb higher than that recent win, which was a fairly narrow one.

Winner over this C&D as recently as February but form has tailed off since an he has finished in front of only two horses in his last three starts.

Back down to this trip having performed well over further, but should be able to replicate that level of form over a sprint distance. On a workable mark but needs to put some tame recent efforts behind her.

Only moderate performances since moving to his current trainer from David O'Meara's, and races from 6lb out of the handicap here, which is unlikely to make his task much easier.

No win since March 2013, and looks to be fully in the grip of the handicapper by now. Difficult draw to overcome here and races from 6lb out of the handicap.

Fair performer at this level in the past but losing streak is now seriously starting to build up, and racing from 4lb out of the handicap complicates matters further.

Verdict

A sprint handicap where it may pay to look towards the head of the weights and NEWSTEAD ABBEY holds the most convincing claims. He has been running very well on Tapeta recently but his overall form is even better on Polytrack, and having finished a very close second over this course at Wolverhampton last time he is 4lb well-in off the same mark and with a draw to suit should be able to pick up a second win in three starts here. Soaring Spirits' form stacks up well enough and should also be on the premises, while Welsh Rose can go well if proving she can act on this surface.

  3. Welsh Rose
