Ran well when finishing runner-up at Chepstow over 1m2f on his penultimate start and run possibly came too quickly when finishing fourth just four days later. Races off the same mark today and wears cheekpieces for the first time.

Sole success came in a 7f maiden on the AW last October. Disappointing the last twice most recently over 1m4f at Leicester (soft) last month and drop in trip should help.

Broke her maiden when winning over 1m on good-to-firm ground here last time out. Races off a 5lb higher mark today and one to note in this contest.

Pulled up on hurdling debut on first outing for this yard at Stratford (good) in July but put in a better performance when sixth in a Salisbury (1m, good) maiden subsequently. Tongue worn on that occasion retained stepping up in trip.

Successful over 1m at Doncaster (soft) on her penultimate start in June and ran well off this 3lb higher mark when third of six at Chepstow (soft) over the same trip the following month. Interesting stepping up in trip.

In good form this summer winning at Doncaster (1m4f, good) and finishing runner-up at Thirsk on his next outing but disappointed the last twice and worth a check in the market dropping in trip.

Fair efforts of late including when finishing fourth in a maiden handicap at Yarmouth over an extended 1m3f last time out. Run well over shorter in the past and wears cheekpieces for the first time following a 2lb drop in the weights.

Disappointing in two starts since switching to handicap company. Tackles this trip for the first time but probably best watched in this contest.

Forecasts

Crushed (2/1), Broughtons Knight (5/1), Flood Defence (5/1), Evening Hill (5/1), Secret Soul (5/1), Sandy Shores (11/2), Kilbaha Lady (12/1), Ingleby Mackenzie (14/1), Lucky Esteem (20/1), Miss M (50/1)

Verdict

The application of cheekpieces can see BROUGHTONS KNIGHT step up on his previous efforts to break his maiden at the 11th attempt in this event. The selection has been running well without winning of late and with the ground and trip to suit he can see off Secret Soul who ran well when third over this C&D last time out while Flood Defence who is stepping up in trip today is another worth considering on her first run since the end of July.
  1. Broughtons Knight
  2. Secret Soul
  3. Flood Defence
