Shaped better with some cut when just over 3L third to Shrewd Approach at Catterick (7f) earlier this month. Feasible that things might happen a bit too quick for his liking at this track on fast ground.

Taken his time to show some ability but took a small step forward when third in a moderate novice stakes at Ayr late last month (7f good to soft). A step into a nursery should help but needs to make more significant progress.

Six-race maiden who has shown a tendency to hang and who finds little under pressure. Looks hard to recommend at present

Posted back to back successes in sellers at Ripon (6f) and Catterick (7f) in July, but is better than that level and did okay when just over 3L third in a 6f Thirsk nursery latest. Trip a slight question mark.

Finished one place behind Burnieboozle when showing some improvement at Catterick earlier in the month (7f soft). Likely to employ front running tactics, and the first time blinkers might keep him going forward on his nursery debut.

Six race maiden who tried this trip for the first time to no avail here earlier in the month (fifth of ten to Kikini Bamalaam). Dropped 2lb but appears relatively exposed.

Didn't manage to beat a single rival on her first two starts, and she was beaten almost 9L when third of nine over this trip at Redcar last month. Her mark looks fair for her nursery debut but improvement is needed.

Mixed it at a lowly level throughout her five race career, but bounced back from losing her action at Catterick (puled up) to take a 6f Redcar seller by 1½L latest. Probably not quite good enough and ground might be a shade too lively.

Much like his stablemate Cuillin Hills, hasn't shown a great deal of obvious promise. However, finished 2¼L fourth on nursery debut over C&D latest, and has similar claims to Archie Perkins (fifth) on that evidence.

Nothing much too recommend her on based upon her four career starts. That said; she could be better than on her nursery debut against a couple of these rivals over C&D last month (met trouble in the run) and is unexposed over this trip.

Verdict

No obvious strength in depth, and not a great deal to suggest that too many of these runners are likely to take giant strides forward now stepping up into nursery handicaps. Therefore, with slight reservations about this trip, the dual selling winner Placebo Effect has to make the shortlist, along with Burnieboozle, who would ideally be suited by rain. However, a speculative nod goes in the direction of the Richard Fahey trained MOUNTAIN APPROACH who will feasibly seek to get loose off the front end, and the application of first time blinkers might be enough to help Paul Hanagan keep this colt going forward for just long enough.
  1. Mountain Approach
  2. Placebo Effect
  3. Burnieboozle
