Slightly disappointing when upped to 6f on his second start at Haydock earlier in the month after a previous rock solid debut third to Cardsharp in a 5f Beverley Conditions Stakes in June. Strong claims now back over the minimum trip.

Slowly away and always in rear when last of seven to Viscount Loftus on debut at Pontefract last week (5f good). Needs to be much sharper this time around in order to be involved.

Didn't exactly fire early doors, including in a division of the Brocklesby at Doncaster in April. No signs of improvement on his latest outing at Ripon in June and returns from a short break needing to leave that level of performance in the past.

Didn't really suggest that this minimum trip would suit when a never nearer seventh of ten on debut at this track over 6f (soft) in July. Could potentially be excused his latest effort (on Tapeta) at Newcastle, but needs a career best to figure.

Showed pace, but lacked the strength and experience to sustain an effort when weakening to finish sixth of eight to Gold Stone on debut at Beverley (5f good). Could do better with time, but takes on the colts for the first time this afternoon.
Ran green on debut over C&D in mid July (ninth of eleven to Reflect Alexander). Looks capable of improvement, but that might come as she gathers more racecourse experience.

Scarcely beaten a rival in three starts to date and appeals more as a horse for the longer term as she steps up in trip (by an Epsom Derby winner). Impossible to see her competitive over this minimum trip on fast ground.

Ran well enough when fourth on her debut at Thirsk in early August (5f good) and probably performed to a similar level (without improving) when fifth of nine to Equitant at Beverley latest. Place claims.

Dandy Man filly who appeared to have broadly taken on board the experience on debut at Doncaster when running on late to finish fifth at Beverley latest. A sharper break from the stalls could see her take another step forward this afternoon.

800 gns foal by Paco Boy out of Shesastar who makes her racecourse debut at a realistic level. Probably worth a glance in the market for support with her trainers string in relatively good order of late.

Forecasts

Cool Spirit (1/2), Ghost (9/2), Lady Sandy (7/1), The Auld Hoose (14/1), Cat Ballou (16/1), Cool Baby (25/1), Paco Escostar (40/1), Furni Factors (40/1), Feebs (50/1), French Silk (250/1)

Verdict

COOL SPIRIT has the single standout piece of form in the book in what appears to be a very winnable contest. His debut effort over this trip at Beverley in June came in a much stronger race than this, and that form has been handsomely franked since. Whilst he could only be considered slightly disappointing on his return to the track at Haydock earlier in the month, reverting back to the minimum trip on faster ground should make him the horse the others have to beat today.

  2. Lady Sandy
  3. Ghost
