Very well handicapped on old form but has barely beaten a horse home in his last six starts. Good jockey booking really the only positive to take today, and others readily preferred.

Is a winner here in the past, and pops up off this sort of mark (usually at Beverley) when the mood takes him, as it did in June. Not disgraced in a selling handicap latest and if beating a poor draw, holds a chance.

Winner here in April but that was over a mile, and this will be the furthest he's ever tackled. Worth a try on it based on his one-paced staying on third at Lingfield latest but lack of form at the trip is a concern.

Bred to do well on the surface (name is an anagram of Southwell!) and although in no form at present, is a C&D winner and popped up at 25/1 that day, so can win out of the blue. Well drawn and not totally discounted.

Winner on the Fibresand surface, so has that going for him, and has put together a series of consistent, if unspectacular, efforts lately. However, likely to get taken on for the lead here, which may compromise his chance.

Placed here a couple of times in 2016, but as many poor efforts on the surface as good ones, and consistency not his strong point. Has been finishing his races off weakly lately and needs to dig in better once the taps are turned on.

Winner here over a mile in March but a bitter disappointment on his only other try on the surface. Stays fine and a drop back to this trip might be ideal, given this will be strongly run, so a bounce back to form not ruled out.

Plenty going for her here, as she's been placed three times out of four runs on the surface (all at this trip), has a good record of getting placed in this grade and is well handicapped. Good chance of shedding the maiden tag here.

Untried on the surface but trainer is a master on the Fibresand, so that becomes less of an issue, and as he's well handicapped on the best of his form and has the cheekpieces for the first time, improvement can't be ruled out.

Has run six times on the surface without success and has never actually been placed here, despite trainer's decent record at the track. On a much lower mark compared to turf but that lack of track form too big a concern.

Not a bad effort at Beverley when fourth there at the beginning of the month but not much to cheer form-wise other than that. May improve for switch to this surface but that's not a given, and clearly comes with risks attached.

Only had the three starts and goes into handicaps on a basement mark. Half-brother Pirate's Treasure was a Fibresand winner in his day, which offers hope she will go on the surface, and this step up in trip likely to suit. Shortlisted.

Comes into this in better form than a few here after a close third at Thirsk last time. Gets the trip well and if translating that last run onto a new surface, holds every chance in a moderate contest.

Form has become progressively worse and he didn't beat a horse home in a Leicester seller last time out. Hard to fancy on that and makes little appeal in present frame of mind.

Forecasts

Arcadian Sea (4/1), Padleyourowncanoe (4/1), Gunner Moyne (13/2), Moojaned (7/1), Star Ascending (10/1), Beach Party (10/1), Albert Boy (11/1), Lean On Pete (12/1), Go On Gal (16/1), Cockney Boy (22/1), Mungo Madness (33/1), Thou Swell (50/1), Les Pecheurs (50/1), Fast Play (66/1)

Verdict

Go On Gal will have her supporters in a bid to win her first race, and given she acts well on the track and gets the trip, she looks more likely to run her race than a few here. But a chance is taken that BEACH PARTY will do better for the step into handicaps (trainer has a decent enough strike rate first time in handicaps to make that a possibility) and the switch to Fibresand will be a beneficial one. Arcadian Sea and Padleyourowncanoe are both worth a second look.
  1. Beach Party
  2. Go On Gal
  3. Padleyourowncanoe
