Steps down in trip having run some fair races at a higher level than this, including when not beaten far in a Group 3 at the Curragh in May. Wears a first time tongue strap on his second start for this trainer.

Denied a hat-trick when sent off favourite at Newmarket last time, and has found more improvement since being ridden by her current rider. On the same mark as that fair effort latest and not totally ruled out in a slightly deeper race.

Put in a career best by a considerable distance when stepping up to this trip at York latest to get off the mark, and is entitled to build on that even if things will be difficult up 8lb.

Very consistent since switching to handicaps this year, and though he was disappointing when beaten favourite at Sandown last time it's not impossible he could bounce back now.

Maiden winner at Doncaster last time when thriving at this distance for the first time, and can continue with his progression on this handicap debut. Conditions should suit.

Not far behind subsequent Group 3 winner Defoe at York two starts ago, and probably wasn't suited by the soft ground here last time. Needs to do better here but has conditions to suit.

Has made a promising start to his handicap career, having won a maiden on his sole start as a juvenile. Career best when finishing second in a valuable Goodwood handicap latest, and should be able to run to that level back on a sounder surface.

Hasn't had much luck in some valuable, competitive handicaps over the summer, but showed ability in winning a Chester maiden in May and hasn't had a proper opportunity to build on that promise yet.

Has progressed well to get off the mark in good style last time when sent off odds-on at Chelmsford. This opening mark seems fair, and a bold bid is anticipated on handicap debut in conditions which should suit.

Forecasts

Frontispiece (2/1), Eynhallow (7/2), Karawaan (7/1), Tribal Conquest (8/1), Novoman (9/1), Anythingtoday (10/1), Twin Star (14/1), Emenem (16/1), Never Surrender (20/1)

Verdict

None of these can be discounted out of hand, but there should be more to come from FRONTISPIECE. Sir Michael Stoute's charge has made a solid start to his career in handicaps, including when second in a good race at Goodwood last time on ground that may have been softer than ideal, and should have more to offer given his profile. His stablemate Karawaan won a maiden in good style at Chelmsford last time and is another for the shortlist, in addition to Twin Star, who steps down in class here.
