A three time winner this year with his last win coming here over 1m1f in a slightly lesser grade. Tried in better company on his subsequent two starts he not been disgraced and may well be able to pick up the winning thread again.

Been very consistent this year with his only win coming here over this C&D in May off a 4lb lower mark. Creeping back up the weights without winning and the cheekpieces go on for the first-time in an effort to eke out some more progress.

Goes handicapping for the first time making his debut for this stable having failed to progress in three maidens. This sphere may show him in a better light although at the moment he has questions to answer.

Scored his first handicap victory on his penultimate start at Ripon finding a bit of improvement against an exposed older bunch. Didn't look to stay a longer trip (1m2f) last time out (eased down closing stages) and this trip may well suit better.

The second handicap debutante in the field his form in maidens at a mile plus so far hasn't inspired. Hopes pinned on going into handicaps and stepping back to 7f here and others look more appealing.

Capped off a busy little period at Ayr on his penultimate start with a win off a mark of 62 showing improved form although he was well placed to in the race to score. Given a 5lb rise for that run he ran a respectable race last time out without looking likely to win again.

Remains a maiden and has his third run for this yard here having shown more than of late in a low-grade AW handicap last time. Looked to make hard work of the job there and more needed to take a hand here.

Off the mark on his second start in a handicap showing much improved form he ran with credit attempting to follow up here over shorter. That trip looked too short for him (only got going late) and will appreciate a return to this trip and competitive off this mark.

His better runs and form appear to have come on the AW at Newcastle and he ran a very poor race last time at Ayr finishing last. Should be capable off this mark but others are stronger and make more appeal here.

Forecasts

Heir of Excitement (11/4), Redarna (5/1), Inglorious (5/1), Brother McGonagall (11/2), Mellor Brook (8/1), Born To Boom (12/1), Supreme Power (12/1), Champion Harbour (20/1), Racemaker (20/1)

Verdict

Like most of the races on this card there are a few in with a chance here and it’s not hard to make a case for more than one. Racemaker should appreciate the drop in trip while Heir Of Excitement can’t be written off despite his mark creeping up. Top weight Brother McGonagall drops in grade and that should enable him to go close and regain the winning thread with Mellor Brook the most interesting of the handicap debutantes. REDARNA didn’t look suited by the trip here last time though but still ran with great credit and this increased trip could well be the catalyst for another win for one who is at the right end of the handicap.
  1. Redarna
  2. Brother McGonagall
  3. Heir of Excitement
