Slightly inconsistent type who is probably better over further than this these days and has to improve on his recent performances in order to figure. Jockey booking is eye-catching, however.

Not beaten far over 5f at this course latest, which is particularly encouraging given she tends to be more effective over this trip. Some way behind Cold Snap in a handicap here in June, and is no better off at the weights here.

Looks exposed and his most recent victory came off a lower handicap mark than this, though he does generally run consistently at least, notwithstanding a 21L beating at Doncaster last month.

Ran with credit in a much stronger race than this over C&D last time and had won three of his last four prior to that. Seems highly progressive and should be capable of going close once again off what should still be a manageable handicap mark.

Not beaten far in a similar race to this over C&D when last seen in June. Was good enough to win a minor maiden at Windsor last year and is lightly raced enough to suggest that further improvement could be imminent.

First victory since March 2015 at Nottingham last time (6f, good to soft), but probably benefited from some enterprising jockeyship on that occasion. That rider retains the ride but may not be able to exploit this race for his benefit as effectively.

In good form of late, having finished as runner up twice before winning well at Pontefract earlier in the month. Carries a 6lb penalty for that victory, which could prove lenient in time, and has to have a big chance on ground which shouldn't be an issue for him.

Well-beaten in a much better race than this at Ascot last time. In good form prior to that, including when only narrowly denied to handicap debut over further here in June, and should have more to offer off this mark.

Has so far failed to make his mark in handicap company, and hasn't been as effective since switching to this yard. Others hold more convincing claims.

Has run the occasional nice race this year, including when winning at Yarmouth in June, but races from a very long way out of the handicap here and would rate a surprise winner.

Forecasts

Cold Snap (9/4), Hart Stopper (9/2), Russian Soul (11/2), Cosmic Chatter (7/1), Samarmadi (8/1), Patchwork (11/1), Diamond Lady (14/1), Related (16/1), Interlink (25/1), Red Tycoon (25/1), Sadieroseclifford (100/1)

Verdict

With the better ground unlikely to be a problem for him, his can go to COSMIC CHATTER. Ruth Carr's talented gelding has been in good form recently, including when winning very impressively at Pontefract when last seen. He carries a 6lb penalty but is 2lb well-in on that basis, and looks set to run another huge race. The lightly-raced Cold Snap is feared most given his potential to improve, followed by Samarmadi, who simply ran too poorly to be true last time.
  1. Cosmic Chatter
  2. Cold Snap
  3. Samarmadi
