Infrequent winner who was beaten only a neck from a 1lb lower mark at Windsor (1m2f good to firm) on his penultimate start, so is capable when putting his best foot forward. However, a shade disappointing back at that same track latest.

Won twice on turf for Ismail Mohammed in 2014 (1m2f), and again for this trainer on Tapeta at Wolverhampton (1m4f) in January 2016. Raced once more that month (something seemingly amiss) and absent since. Plenty to prove at present.

5/2
Progressive six race maiden who returned from a break when just held off by a head from Fastar at Winsdor (1m good) late last month. That form has been loosely franked since and looks worth trying over this longer trip, but a 3lb rise makes life a shade more difficult.

His two career success probably didn't come in the strongest of events, but he's not short on stamina (stays further). Hasn't appeared the most reliable performer this time around, hence the call for cheek-pieces in order to see if a little bit of extra improvement (from a declining mark) can be extracted. Rain wouldn't be a concern, but plenty to find with Milky Way.

Made all and ran on strongly to take a 1m course maiden by 1L in September 2016 (good to soft). Fairly quiet since switched into handicaps (hence the fall in the weights), but did okay over C&D in April and no back number if the first time blinkers make an impression.

Not tasted success since her debut in June 2016 (6f soft), but has a fairly solid overall profile and did well when trying this trip for the first time at Windsor last week when rallying and just failing to nail Raj Balaraaj. Claims from the same mark.

100,000 gns Helmet yearling who has appeared fairly moderate to date. However, this is just his second start in a handicap, and whilst he finished very tamely at Lingfield (1m3f+) earlier in the month, this drop in trip could be beneficial.

Left maiden company (three starts) and kicked off in a seller at Leicester earlier this month. Whilst finishing 3L third to Akamanto (1m2f good), the race type hardly offers encouragement and he has been eased in the weights accordingly by the handicapper.

Verdict

MILKY WAY should have plenty more to offer than most in this 1m2f handicap, and has the added bonus of being partnered by Ryan Moore. By Galileo, this five-year-old has been very lightly raced for his age having been sidelined between August 2015 and June 2017. However, it was encouraging to see him showing tenacity in a three way thriller for Amateur Riders over this trip at Newbury last month (just edged out by Hawridge Glory). The third horse in that contest, Raj Balaraaj has won since (beating Funky Footsteps), who on that evidence should be the chief danger if proving as effective at this trip on just her second attempt over ten furlongs.
  1. Milky Way
  2. Funky Footsteps
  3. Haulani
