Two time winner who appeared thoroughly progressive until encountering slower ground at Newmarket in late June (1m good to soft) when just over 3L third to Rigoletto. Renews battle on 6lb better terms, but further rainfall will be a negative, and he was taken out at Goodwood recently when the heavens opened.
Given a 6lb rise for a ½L success at Newmarket in late June (Surrey Hope third), but it was probably more being hampered than the additional weight that stopped him landing the hat-trick when fourth to Tafaakhor back at HQ latest. That form has taken a few knocks since (1-2 both well beaten), but was also perversely boosted with the third placed Angel Down being a subsequent winner. Player.
Regularly placed in handicap company this season and has some decent form in the book, most notably when splitting Burrishoole Abbey and Battered at Sandown (7f) in mid June. However, unable to convert a golden opportunity back in a maiden latest, with the only plausible theory being that Bath firm ground just wasn't to his liking.
Moved to this trainer for 12,000 gns from Dermot Weld and has proved a shrewd acquisition, building on a fair effort in a Newmarket maiden to score on handicap debut at Chester (7½f good) last month. Raised 6lb for a ¾L success so undoubtedly this is a tougher assignment, but he deserves his place in the line up.
1m juvenile maiden winner at Redcar on his second start in October 2016 (good to soft), but the handicapper has appeared to have his measure from this mark. Whilst not being disgraced in a couple of goes in this grade, he hasn't looked a certain future winner and others hold more compelling claims.
100% on the AW (1 from 1) but a nine race maiden on turf. He hasn't appeared overly suited by much longer trips, but that probably doesn't tell the whole story as he folded tamely back over 1m latest (admittedly on soft ground).
A nine race maiden on turf who shaped with a degree of promise when runner up over an inadequate 6f at this track in mid May (good to soft). However, not altogether appealing on subsequent efforts and plenty to do with Surrey Hope on Sandown form from early June.

A highly competitive Pembroke Cup with the progressive pair RIGOLETTO and Surrey Hope set to lock horns once more after their clash at HQ in June. The Joseph Tuite trained three-year-old went into that particular contest firmly on the upgrade, but possibly found the ground softer than ideal and was beaten 3+L by Luca Cumani's Yarmouth maiden winner. 6lb revised terms should bring the pair closer together and Surrey Hope might have been fancied to extract his revenge on faster ground, but with rain lurking just about everywhere at the moment, he'd be a risky proposition should any significant totals fall upon this part of Wiltshire. Of the others, this is far tougher for both Kryptos and Dragons Voice, but as potential further improvers, one would be be foolish to readily state that they'd not be up to the task.
