Wins in his turn and notable that he is 7lb lower than for his last success at Musselburgh. Gave an indication that better was to come when fourth at Nottingham latest, but that losing habit is becoming hard to shake-off.

Not tasted success since May 2016 (7f good to firm at Newmarket). Left George Scott for 25,000 gns in the autumn, but as of yet is still to evade success for this usually reliable trainer who tends to improve stable newcomers. 10lb below last winning mark.

Picked up unraced for £3,200 at Doncaster in January, and repaid that investment when making all to score by ½L at Thirsk (7f) in June. Built upon that when a solid second at Carlisle to Saint Equiano and no disgrace in finishing fifth to the talented Hugin over 1m here last week. Possibilities back to 7f.

Stronger performer on the AW (better than on turf) and was 1½L second to War Department at Newcastle in June, but not so sharp in two goes since. Might be able to capitalise on a rightly falling turf mark at some point, but not today.

Off the mark at the tenth attempt over 6f at Hamilton in late June beating Cosmic Chatter by 2½L. Possibly flattered by that effort as he made all bagging the favoured stands side rail and a 6lb rise looks too much.

Solid despite higher marks since winning over this trip at Carlisle in May (good to firm) but likely to run his race having finished one place in front of subsequent winner Ventura Secret (runs today) at Thirsk last month.

Fairly lightly raced but seemingly improving and edged out the odds-on Call Me Grumpy when scoring over C&D in June (good). Probably didn't quite stay on his next start, but back to form when third over this trip at Leicester in late July and has place claims from a mark just 3lb above his last winning one.

Kept busy, and this will be his seventh start since early June. His mark appears an accurate one and he's unlikely to have much in hand with the handicapper, having taken advantage of a drop into a classified claimer to win at Wolverhampton (6f) on his penultimate start.

Won twice over this trip at sharp tracks (Musselburgh and Catterick) in 2017 and is 2lb higher than when all out to repel Heir Of Excitement on the latter occasion. This long straight might not play to his strengths and he can be taken on.

17 race maiden, but better since the cheek-pieces were applied and consistent in recent starts without managing to get his head in front. His head Newcastle second to Barwah in early June has a solid feel with the third placed horse Wealth Tax (run up a sequence) and the fourth placed Lucky Lodge winners since. Edging up the weights and closely matched with Hajjam.

Formerly with Charlie Appleby for whom he won an Epsom maiden over 7f, but he's not quite taken off for this yard yet and hasn't looked a threat on his last three starts. Chances are that there is a win in him and he should appreciate this drop in trip, but he may need to ease a few more pounds in the handicap yet.

Verdict

The trickiest race on the entire card for punters to solve, so stakes are best kept to a minimum. Plenty have chances including the relatively lightly raced C&D winner Hajjam with whom KIRKHAM is closely matched. Right Action looks solid for the ever respected Richard Fahey, but the sneaking suspicion with Hamilton winner Parys Mountain is that he was flattered by his all the way success up the favoured stands side rail. Raselasad has proved a shrewd acquisition for Tracy Waggott and his winning might not be done just yet and he should appreciate the drop in trip after racing over 1m here last week. However, it is the Julie Camacho trained 17 race maiden Kirkham that is the selection with his recent newly found consistency deservedly due some reward.
